History
Studio Banana Things was started by another company called Kawamura-ganjavian, an architecture and design practice also known as Studio KG. Studio KG was founded by Key Portilla-Kawamura and Ali Ganjavian in 2000 in London and then together they founded Studio Banana things in 2006 on Platano Street in Madrid. They named their company based on its location, as platano means banana in Spanish. Kawamura and Ganjavian met at the University of East London and then both went to finish their educations at the Architectural Association and the Royal College of Art, also in London, where they became good friends and eventually business partners.
Studio Banana Things, a division of Studio Banana, was originally founded when Kawamura and Ganjavian realized that there were no companies focused on creating simple inventions to improve every day life. So, they founded Studio Banana Things on the creative platform “Make the Impossible Possible.” Studio Banana Things feature product is the Ostrich pillow. The Ostrich Pillow comes in five different varieties, the original Ostrich Pillow, the Ostrich Pillow mini, the Ostrich Pillow Light, the Ostrich Pillow light reversible, and the Ostrich Pillow Junior. The Ostrich Pillow is described on the Studio Banana Things website as a pillow designed for power napping. The original Ostrich Pillow is a pillow that goes over one’s head with hole in the mouth and nose area and two holes above the head designed to put the hands in. The Ostrich Pillow mini is a version of the Ostrich Pillow designed to fit on one’s arm or hand so that the customer can rest their head on the pillow. The Ostrich Pillow light is a smaller, more portable version of the original Ostrich Pillow. It is designed to fit anywhere around one’s head and neck so that the customer can easily nap on the go. The Ostrich Pillow light reversible is the same idea as the Ostrich Pillow light, however, it is reversible and comes with an adjustable cord so that the customer can adjust the size. The Ostrich Pillow Junior has the same design as the original Ostrich Pillow, however, it is designed for children. The Ostrich Pillow price ranges from $25 for the Ostrich Pillow mini to $99 for the original Ostrich Pillow. There are also several Ostrich Pillow packages that range from price $46 to $445.

Jarret Bellini, a CNN reporter, speaks of this up-and-coming companies social media presence, “I was rather excited this week to discover all the social media buzz over the amazing new Ostrich Pillow. Essentially, it’s a soft, padded tube in which you can bury your entire head to take a nap, so long as you don’t mind burying your entire head in a soft, padded tube.” The Ostrich Pillow sells itself due to its comfort and convenience but with the help of Studio Banana Things social media department, this product has the possibility of taking over the pillow market.
