Harold Hofer was a Sergeant Major in the United States Marine Corps from 1969-1997. He currently serves as the Director of the Colin Powell Center for Leadership and Ethics at Hargrave Military Academy, where he was formally the Commandant of Cadets. He received his Bachelor of Science (B.S.), Sociology from Averett University, and his Master of Arts (M.A.), Professional Counseling from Liberty University. Biography Military career Hofer was drafted into the United States Marine Corps in August 1969. His second day in Vietnam resulted on his promotion to Squad Leader, when everyone in his squad was killed or wounded by a land mine. By the end of his career he had achieved the rank of Sergeant Major. Hargrave Military Academy In November 1997, Hofer began working as a TAC Officer at Hargrave Military Academy. He served as Bravo Company TAC until 2002. From 2007-2009 he lead the corps as the Commandant of Cadets. He is currently the Director of the Colin Powell Center for Leadership and Ethics at Hargrave.
