Steven Kretchmer

Steven Kretchmer (died July 8, 2006) was an innovative American jewelry designer.
Background
His father was a pediatric biochemist and his mother was a modern dance choreographer. Kretchmer earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in jewelry and metal smithing at the Rhode Island School of Design. He then traveled to Milan, Italy where he learned traditional goldsmithing techniques. In 1982, he received a Master of Fine Arts degree from the department of metalwork and jewelry design at the University of Michigan. He worked for Harry Winston in New York City where he researched, developed and produced jewelry components that are made from unique gold alloys, in particular the 18k blue gold.
