Haakon Faste, Ph.D, is an American designer and artist, best known for his work in the fields of interaction design, virtual reality, and robotic art. He is currently a visiting assistant professor at the Human-Computer Interaction Institute at Carnegie Mellon University, where he directs the Creative Systems Laboratory, and executive director of the Rolf A. Faste Foundation for Design Creativity in Palo Alto, California. Faste is a leading figure in the field of posthuman factors and posthuman-centered design, coining the terms in 2010, and is a regular contributor, editorial board member, and reviewer for numerous professional journals and conferences. He earned his bachelor's degree with High Honors in Art from Oberlin College in 1998, and a PhD in Perceptual Robotics from the Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies in 2010. Previously he worked as an interaction designer and Software Experiences practice lead at IDEO, and as a virtual interface designer at Fakespace Laboratories. As an interaction designer with Nettmedia in New York from 2000-2001, Faste led website design and development projects for the Whitney Museum of American Art, the New York Yankees, and David Bowie.com.
