Publications
‘Society and culture in Rajasthan C. AD 700-900’ was originally submitted by her as a thesis for a Ph. D. degree. Utilizing Prakrit language sources, the revised text documents evidence of a lively domestic and foreign trade during the period, thus challenging the characterization of the period by Ram Sharan Sharma as one with decline of long distance trade and increasing power of the local landed elites. The monograph also identifies the growth of feudalism, Jainism and tantricism as important factors aiding in the liberalization of caste rules and assimilation of tribals.
In her paper in the Indian Historical Review, Shanta Sharma has shown that based on the Gallaka inscription the Imperial Prathihara rulers were not Gurjaras. This is keeping with the earlier views of G H Ojha and Dasharatha Sharma.
