Shafiqur Rahman

Shafiqur Rahman is a renowned Industrialist and philanthropist from Bangladesh.
He was born in Laksham, Comilla. He studied in Dhaka University. In his student life, he was involved with student politics. He was the acting General Secretary of East Pakistan Student Union, which was the most popular student organization before the liberation of Bangladesh. He is the founder president of Bangladesh Rubber Industry Association.
In 1965 Shafiqur Rahman started business in Laksham in a very small scale. In that time, he owned a shop to sell rod and cement. In 1972 he established a footwear manufacturing industry under the brand name Rupsha. Within few years, Rupsha became the most popular brand for footwear in Bangladesh.
In 1991, under the leadership of Shafiqur Rahman, Rupsha expanded its business by making bicycle and rickshaw tires and tubes in Bangladesh. At that time the rickshaw and bicycle tire market of Bangladesh was dominated by Chinese and Indian made tires and tubes. Though, within few years, Rupsha carried out a prominent role in establishing Bangladeshi brand in local market by making quality bicycle tires and tubes.
Shafiqur Rahman is a member of the Board of Directors of The Premier Bank.
