Dr. M. Alauddin

M Alauddin (born August 12, 1945) was a Bangladeshi otolaryngologist.
He was born in August 12, 1945 and raised in Srirampur, South Surma of Sylhet; son of Late Abdul Aziz. He was a resident of Baridhara, Dhaka.
He graduated in 1968 from Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College and joined the same institution as a Demonstrator in Anatomy in 1969. Later he worked as clinical assistant in Dept. of Surgery in IPGMR till 1973. Then he went to the UK for higher education and received his DLO and FRCS degrees from London in 1978. He worked at different hospitals in National Health Service of the UK under guidance of renowned otolaryngologists of UK. In 1979, he came back to Bangladesh and joined Sylhet Medical College as an Associate Professor of Otolaryngology. Later he became Professor of Otolaryngology and worked in Sir Salimullah Medical College, Dhaka Medical College and IPGMR. Finally he retired as Chairman and Professor of the Department of Otolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery of Bangabandhu Shiekh Mujib Medical University in 2008.
Late Dr. M Alauddin dedicated his life to upgrade the subject of otolaryngology in Bangladesh and also internationally. He had more than 50 publications in national and international journals. He attended various national and international conferences and workshops and presented papers and was always the leader of Bangladesh delegates. Dr. M. Alauddin was the founder President of 1st SAARC ENT Congress in
1998. He was President of the Society of Otolaryngologists and Head Neck Surgeons of Bangladesh for 15 years. He was also Vice President of Society of Sound Hearing and Regional Secretary of South and Western Asia of the International Federation of Otolaryngology Societies. Among his attachments of different academic and Social Organization, he was the President of SAARC ENT Association (1998-2000), Secretary General of SAARC ENT Association (2000-till his death), President Jalalabad Association (1999-2002), President Sylhet Medical College Ex-Student Association (1989-till death), Member Executive Committee, BMA; Chairman, Editorial Board, BMA Journal; Member, EC of BMRC and BMDC.
He was a leader, visionary, great teacher, dedicated organizer, caring professional and pleasant person. He was born fighter, never leave the ground even in his illness. His disease was diagnosed in 2006, but remained as strong as he was before. After receiving treatment, he came back and organized 3rd International conference and worked for the prevention of deafness and awareness of Head Neck Cancers for rest of his life. He was a dreamer and ENT Foundation was his dream for the distressed people of Bangladesh.
