Riaz Agha is a Trainee Surgeon at Ashford and St. Peter’s Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. In addition, he is an Honorary Specialty Registrar at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, a Clinical Supervisor for Gonville & Caius College, University of Cambridge and was one of the first ever National Institute of Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) Scholars . He is the founder, Managing and Executive Editor for the International Journal of Surgery and most recently the International Journal of Surgery: Case Reports, Elsevier’s very first open access journal . Mr Agha is a Council Member for the Section of Plastic Surgery at the Royal Society of Medicine and the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) representing >7,000 journals worldwide . Board appointments include; Elsevier’s Editorial Advisory Board, Map of Medicine Fellows Board, Advisory Board of Patients Know Best , the Association of Surgeons in Training and the Surgery Journal Editors Board (SJEG). He is a member of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, a Junior Member of the British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons and a member of the King’s Fund Global Emerging Leaders Programme. Mr Agha has a strong interest in the internet and sit on the Web/e-learning Committee for the World Association of Medical Editors (WAME) and COPE. He is also advising NHS Evidence and Elsevier on web developments and have used my knowledge to help build two military websites for NATO and also developed WikiSurgery.com, the largest surgical encyclopedia on the web . As an Ambassador for Enterprise UK, he was cited as an “inspirational entrepreneur” by The Rt. Hon. John Hutton MP, Former Secretary of State for Business, Enterprise & Regulatory Reform at his keynote speech during Enterprise week 2007 . He has been a Consultant on healthcare and technology to a member of the Joint Ventures Board of the Bank of Scotland, former Vice-Chairman of the Governing Council of University College London and the former Chairman of the Further Education Council. Mr Agha graduated from Guy’s, King’s and St. Thomas’ Medical School in London with distinctions and a 1st Class Honours in my intercalated BSc in Anatomy. He has a keen interest in teaching, examining and selection and have been involved in such activities for King’s College London and Cambridge University Medical Schools. He has been awarded over 25 academic prizes/scholarships, published over 35 papers and given over 35 national and international presentations.
