Senthil Nathan

Senthil Nathan (born 17 April 1958) is a surgeon . His contribution to the development of minimal invasive techniques and robotic surgery for urological diseases is well recognized. In particular he carried out the first robotic surgery in the world to actually remove human tissue. Along with engineers from Imperial College he developed THE PROBOT, the first true surgical robot. This laid the foundation for future developments into computer assisted surgery and robotic techniques. His contribution to the literature on bringing this engineering hardware into a regular operating theatre and adapting them in view of sterility and the lighting atmosphere is well documented.>
Currently he is working as a Consultant Urological Surgeon and Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer in The University College London Hospitals, NHS Foundation Trust and Royal Free Hampstead NHS Trust.
Education
He studied at Montfort Boys' Higher Secondary School, Yercaud India. He read medicine at University of Madras in 1983. After his MBBS he has gained; MS from Banglore Medical College, University of Banglore, India. FRCS, Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, United Kingdom. Philanthropy
Apart from being a leader in his field of Uro-oncology, he is a keen teacher of undergraduates, postgraduate and ancillary medical staff. Towards this he has been appointed as the Director of Robotic Training in the Chitra Sethia Centre for Robotic and Minimal Access Surgery. His Philanthropy extends to supporting numerous Charities including sponsoring a school of 600 children in Southern India and the first clinical champion of UCL Charities.
