World Association of Laparoscopic Surgeons

The World Association of Laparoscopic Surgeons was founded in 2001 by international group of Surgeons and Gynaecologists who felt need of a strong world level organization for Minimal Access Surgery. This organization is registered exclusively for educational, scientific, research and charitable purposes and registered through Indian Societies Registration Act of 1860. The WALS is a leading minimal access surgical society of general surgeon, gynecologist, urologist and pediatric surgeon. This leading minimal access surgical society is at present representing over 5,000 general surgeons and gynecologists from more than 200 countries of the world. The organization is a vibrant, growing and dynamic international non government organization based on its mission to optimize patient care through education, research and innovation in laparoscopic surgery. The leadership of this organization recognizes the breadth of the practice as well as the focus of more specialized practices of minimal access surgery. WALS represents a worldwide community of surgeons that can bring minimal access surgery, endoscopy and emerging techniques to patients in every country.
Most of the minimal access surgical organization of the world are confined to their own parent country whereas, the main concept behind WALS was to make a global platform under which all the medical profession involved in laparoscopy should exchange their knowledge and experience. WALS provide a professional forum of surgeons and gynecologist from all over World for the exchange of information and education regarding historic, current, and future methods of diagnosis and treatment in Minimal Access Surgery.
Growth
World Association of Laparoscopic Surgeons has become a growing and dynamic organization of minimal access surgeons that will continue to play a leading role in the future of Laparoscopic Surgery and Allied Interventional Techniques.
WALS is an International Organization for the promotion of laparoscopic surgery amonth surgeons and gynecologist and it is duly registered by the government of respective countries. This non government organization the only registered organization of world in which Laparoscopic Surgeons, Laparoscopic Gynaecologists, Laparoscopic Urologists, Laparoscopic pediatric surgeons and any other medical allied branches doing laparoscopic surgery are welcome.
Other activities
Aside from organizing annual Top Level international minimal access surgical Congresses, World Association of Laparoscopic Surgeons is actively involved in minimal access surgical research, development of laparoscopic and robotic surgery and training and publication of outstanding articles in its indexed journal of World Journal of Laparoscopic Surgery. This organization is fully dedicated for Educational (training), Research (multi center studies and clinical trials in laparoscopic surgery), Technological (R&D in instrumentation, ancillary equipment, telerobotics and telecommunication), Publication (publication of original articles and state of the art reviews), Membership and Public Relations. World Association of Laparoscopic Surgeon has organized hundreds of camp and performed free laparoscopic surgery for the poor and needy section of society.
Camps.
The Educational Committee runs WALS training Courses and also endorses training courses in member institutions and hospitals if these meet the criteria set up by the Committee which are reviewed periodically. The Fellowship and Diploma in Minimal Access Surgery confered by World Association of Laparoscopic Surgeons is the first Fellowship program in the World.
