Scott L. Efflandt, As of April, 2010, COL Efflandt is the commander of the 1st Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division (United States) at Fort Hood, Texas.
Biographical Summary
Scott L. Efflandt was born in Rock Island, Illinois. In 1985 he received a commission from Marion Military Institute as a Distinguished Military Graduate. For the next two years, as he completed his degree, he served as an Infantry Platoon Leader with the 3rd Battalion, 130th Infantry in the Illinois Army National Guard. Upon receipt of a Regular Army commission in 1987 Scott assessed onto Active Duty as an Armor Officer.
As a new Armor lieutenant, COL Efflandt was assigned to the 5th Battalion, 77th Armor (Steel Tigers) of the 8th Infantry Division in Mannheim, Germany. During this tour his duties included tank platoon leader, support platoon leader, company executive officer and battalion maintenance officer. Then Captain Efflandt’s next operational assignment in 1992 was with the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment (Brave Rifles) initially at Fort Bliss, Texas. During this tour he served in three squadrons as either an assistant S3, the S3 and finally as the commander of B Troop (Bandit) 1st Squadron until he relinquished command at Fort Carson, Colorado in 1996.
Upon completion of civil schooling, then Major Efflandt taught cadets at the United States Military Academy as a member of the faculty in the Behavioral Sciences and Leadership Department. In 2001, his request to return to the operational Army was granted and he returned to troop service with the 1st Cavalry Division. In the subsequent seven years he had the distinction to work as the Executive Officer of the 2nd Battalion, 12th Cavalry (Thunderhorse), then as the 2nd Brigade (Black Jack) S3, XO followed by duty as the Deputy Brigade Commander. Most recently Scott commanded 2nd Battalion, 8th (US) Cavalry (Stallions), relinquishing duties in April of 2008 to serve on the faculty of the Naval War College in Newport, RI. On April 23, 2010, Col. Scott Efflandt assumed command of the on Cooper Field at Fort Hood, Texas.
