Robert Rooks (Criminal Justice Advocate)

Robert Rooks is a criminal justice campaign operative who has been working in the field for over 20 years.
Alliance for Safety and Justice
Robert is the Vice President and co-founder of national nonprofit organization Alliance for Safety and Justice (ASJ). ASJ is dedicated to carrying out criminal justice reform across the United States and has helped enact change in Florida, Illinois, Michigan, and Ohio.Robert and ASJ assisted with the passage of 2018 Florida Amendment 4 which passed by a nearly two-to-one margin and restored the eligibility to vote to more than 1.4 million Floridians with a past felony conviction.
Career
In 2019, Robert created the Campaign Academy for Safety and Justice as an educational resource for those working in the criminal justice field.
Robert is the Vice President of Crime Survivors for Safety and Justice (CSSJ), a nationwide constituency advocating for the rights and safety of crime survivors. Robert previously served as the Organizing Director for Californians for Safety and Justice, where he helped pass 2014 California Proposition 47.
Robert worked for the NAACP as the Criminal Justice Director.
Education/Academia
Robert studied at the University of Connecticut. Robert served as an adjunct professor at the University of Connecticut School of Social Work and St. Joseph’s College, and at Central Connecticut State University.
