Jose Olesini

Dr. Jose Olesini (March 23, 1935 - October 30,2008) was a notable American professor emeritus who's doctorial dissertation on bilingual education, continues to be a source of reference for additional studies for effectiveness of programs geared towards Limited English Proficient learners. As an educator, Dr. Jose Olesini taught Education, Physical Science, and Mathematic classes for all age and grade levels throughout the country. Among the places he worked were: Arizona State University; San Antonio College; St. Mary's University in San Antonio, TX; Pan American University in Edinburg, TX; Laredo Community College; Edinburough University in Pennsylvania, several public school districts in South Texas, Southern Arizona, and Wyoming, and South Texas Community College in McAllen, TX.
Career/Life
Dr. Olesini grew up in the Dallas/Fort Worth Area, attending Oak Cliff Adamson High School in the early 1950s. There, he participated in sports and excelled in track and field events. Upon graduation he enrolled at Arlington State University and enlisted with the U.S. Marine Reserve. He went on to finish his undergraduate studies at Southern Methodist University, attaining a Bachelor's in geology.
As a graduate student, Dr. Jose Olesini traveled much of the United States and Mexico working as a field geologist. Most of his graduate work in geology includes studying mining operations in Utah and Arizona, as well as assisting in the location natural gas and petroleum. Though Dr. Olesini was a trained geologist, he decided to share his knowledge with the new generation. In the mid 1960s, he completed his Master's degree in Education at East Texas State University in Commerce, TX. Then, in 1971, he earned his Doctorial degree in Education from Texas A&M University.
While in Mexico in 1966, working on a graduate field study of Mexican Volcanoes, Dr. Olesini met and married Amalia Padilla of Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Mexico. They had their first child, Maria de Lourdes on June 19, 1967. Three years later, on August 13, 1970, they had their second daughter, Yanet. The birth of their third daughter, Jessica, came ten years later in August 23, 1980.
