Jesus Angulo

Jesus Angulo is a Hispanic instructor, bilingual counselor, educator and community mentor in Northern California United States. Angulo has obtained a Master's of Arts in Counselor Education with a PPS Pupil Personnel Services Credential in School Counseling, Master's of Arts in Mexican American Studies with an emphasis in Comparative Ethnic and Cultural Studies as well as a Bachelor's of Arts in Spanish with a minor in Latin American Studies from San Jose State University.
Teaching history
San Jose State University adjunct instructor in Social Sciences and ethnic studies, facilitator in the Graduate program in Counselor Education, teaching graduate students methodologies in small groups in synthetic families.
San Jose City College (2005-06), Evergreen Valley College (2005-06), San Diego Mesa College (2006-07), National Hispanic University (2007), Angulo teaches courses in Social Science and Ethnic Studies. In addition, Angulo has worked closely with disenfranchised and underprivileged families in San Jose, California. As an academic and guidance counselor at Renaissance Academy of Arts, Science and Social Justice (2007-08) in San Jose, a predominately middle class Latino, White, and Asian community, Angulo works closely with students and parents providing the proper conditions for students to acquire support, direction and leadership. He has developed study techniques such as note taking skills and memorization strategies for high school students.
Major research
Counseling at the Borderlands (US Mexico Border) the most recent publication (2008) which looks at US Mexico Border students along the Southwest. Angulo developed a workshop for counselor competency and awareness, creating a series of educational activities that allow the counselor real hands on experience with parents and students through a group counseling process. Interventions for At-Risk Bilingual Students and Parents (2007) is a series of detailed interventions in Spanish and English developed for counselors working with Bilingual students and parents. Mexican American and Portuguese Americans in Higher Education (2005) is a unique investigation conducted on the use of the Portuguese and Spanish language at school, home and community. Furthermore, it examines Bilingualism and student communication in higher education.
Recently presented a chapter of Counseling at the Borderlands at Raza Day at The National Hispanic University Nov 2008, outlining U.S. Mexico Border culture and lifestyle to High School Students.
Organizations
Recently, Feb 2009, attended the WESTOP Western Association of Student Personal Conference in Phoenix Arizona.
In 2000 Angulo created the Latin American Society at San Jose State University, a club organization on campus that promoted Latin American Culture. The club organized the first ever Brazilian Carnaval that featured Samba Da, a Brazilian Samba band from Santa Cruz, California. Angulo also created the San Jose State Surf Club (2003-05) which later became Spartan Surfing.
