Myrrha P. Satow

Dr. Myrrha P. Satow is the founder and president of Performance Academies, an educational management company that operates 13 charter schools throughout Ohio and Michigan. Originally from Dayton, Ohio, Satow now resides in Columbus, Ohio with her family. She currently serves as a member of the State Advisory Panel for Exceptional Children (SAPEC) for Ohio, where she advises and assists the Ohio Department of Education (ODE) on special education and related services for children with disabilities. Satow holds a Superintendent License from the State of Ohio.
Education
Satow earned a B.A. in Psychology from Wright State University, an M.A. in Curriculum and Instruction with Specialization in School Psychology from the University of South Florida (USF), and a Ph.D, also from USF, in Special Education and specialized in Educational Policy. Other professional training includes Strategic Management for Charter School Leaders from Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government, and School Mental Health and Child Psychotherapy, both from the Harvard Medical School Department of Continuing Education.
Career
After earning her M.A., Satow began her career in education as a graduate assistant for Project Achieve for the Jesse Keen Elementary and Middle Academies in Lakeland, Florida. She then spent two years gaining classroom experience by working as a middle school teacher at Christ Our Redeemer Lutheran School in Temple Terrace, Florida. While earning her Ph.D., she spent a year as a research and program associate and a technical assistance manager for the Florida Charter School Resource Center. During that time, she also served as an adjunct instructor in Special Education at USF. As Satow was completing her dissertation, she taught as an adjunct instructor in Special Education at Wright State University while also acting as lead consultant for the Charter Friends National Network Special Education Working Group. Satow was serving as the Executive Director of the Community Schools Design and Development Project when she was awarded her Ph.D.
In early 2002, Satow founded her first two charter schools, Middletown Preparatory and Fitness Academy and Trotwood Preparatory and Fitness Academy, both of which are located in Southwestern Ohio. She managed these and 11 other charter schools in Ohio and Florida as the CEO of EdVantages, where she oversaw a staff of nearly 500. In 2013, she became President of Performance Academies, an educational management company that provides services to charter schools in Ohio and Michigan. The charter schools that Performance Academies serve use an extended day program with a low student-teacher ratio to build a strong foundation in reading, writing, math, science and citizenship, as well as to provide daily physical fitness training in martial arts, soccer and tennis.
