Riar Jatt

Riar is a gotra (clan) of the Jatt people found in Punjab and Haryana regions of India and Pakistan. Indian Riar's are predominantly Sikh and Pakistani Riar's are Muslims. Most Riar originated from Gurdaspur and Hoshiarpur Region of Punjab. Before 1947 many Riar lived in Dharowali near Nankana Sahib, Pakistan. After Partition of India, Riar's scattered to different regions of India, mainly in Haryana, Punjab, Himachal, Rajasthan and Uttarpradesh. Riarki area near Gurdaspur is dominated by Riars. The Riar clan is famous for their vast land holdings and political influence in the Punjab region of India.
The area hosts Riarki College, Tughalwala. one of the largest free women's colleges in the state. Founded by the founder President Com. S. Channan Singh Tughalwala the veteran freedom fighter and social worker who has done a commendable work for the area, state and on the all India level.
