The Royal Grammar School Stage Lighting and Sound Team is a stage lighting and sound team within the Royal Grammar School High Wycombe. It provides lighting services for the school all around the year and offers members of the school an opportunity to learn about stage lighting, sound, stage management and various other skills. As the boys get older they are given the opportunity partake in leadership roles giving them experience in managing and teaching a team of over 40 people. History First evidence of the teams existance is 1994. This is due to the fact that the funding for the team only dates back to this time. However, some evidence can be found within the teams headquarters that it was being used, or at least staff were operating various pieces of equipment, much before this time. The Queens Hall was built in 1962 and was host to a royal visit on 6 April 1962. Shortly after completion of the main hall, various facilities were implemented allowing the school to put on productions, shows, assemblies and other events throughout the year. One particular piece of notable equipment is a fixed appliance dimmer dating back to the 1970s due to its large size, old mechanisms and manual circuit selection. In recent years the team have acquired many more theatrical lights, high end sound equipment and in more recent years two new mobile towers in which members are required to take a course in health and safety to use. Website Until 2007 the team was only known within the school and staff, as well as external event organizers, had to go through the school to get access to the team's resources. However, an ex-team member built a website for usage incorporating a request system as well as a box office system for school productions. Membership Students of the Royal Grammar School, High Wycombe are able to join the team once they have reached the UK academic year 9. Membership to the team is granted on the basis that new members are willing to learn new skills, have an interest in stage lighting or sound and are willing to assist the team on a regular basis.
