Raleigh Theodore Sakers

Raleigh Theodore Sakers (July 9, 1926 - July 25, 2000), aka Rollie Sakers, was the angry old man that can be heard on Sublime's album Robbin' the Hood, and Unwritten Law's album Elva. Kelly Vargas, a friend of the members of Sublime and a former drummer for the band, had a brother named Matt Vargas who worked at a halfway house, where Rollie resided. His parts of the album were recorded when he was in said halfway house and released as 'Raleigh's Soliloquys'. There is also a Rollie bootleg titled "Psychosemantic Blockage" which includes over 30 minutes of his ranting about everything from fellatio to politics. It is highly likely, given the disjoined and generally raging nature of his rants, that he suffered from some sort of advanced mental illness - probably undifferentiated or paranoid schizophrenia. Nonetheless, Sakers has a cult following and there is even now a line of clothing in his honor called Rollie Wear. Mr. Sakers died in Inglewood, California in 2000. |
