Ape Machine

Ape Machine is an American hard rock band formed in early 2008 by vocalist, Caleb Heinze (The Evening Episode / Minmae) and guitarist Ian Watts (Minmae / Amphora) in Portland, Oregon. Drummer, Jeff Bond (Diamond Liars / Asphalt Thieves) and bassist, Brian True (The Evening Episode) joined the group, followed by guitarist, Jimi Miller. After playing with this line-up for a few months, Bond decided to focus on other projects and was replaced by drummer Monte Fuller. In late 2009, Monte Fuller decided to step down and was eventually replaced by drummer Damon DeLaPaz (30 Foot Fall / Fenix TX / Demasiado) . During a brief period between drummers, Ira Skinner (The Evening Episode / Paper Pistols) filled in for the position on two west coast tours. The current line-up tours regularly and has released their debut album This House Has Been Condemned.
About
The band’s name originated from a tape deck in Watts recording studio that had lost the “t” in tape. The resulting sticker was "ape machine".
Ape Machine releases their debut album, This House Has Been Condemned, on May 4, 2010, Self-released through their own Ape Machine Music.
The band features ex-members of Slowdance Records recording artist The Evening Episode, Greyday Records' Minmae, plus MCA Records’ Fenix TX
Each member of Ape Machine contributes to the songwriting and adds their individual strengths and ideas to arrangement, riffs, and transitions. Singer, Caleb Heinze explains, "The music knows where it lives and our job is to help it find its way home. We can accomplish this by not forcing ourselves on it but flirting with it and and getting it a little drunk... then it's easy". Guitarist, Ian Watts adds, “A lot of our songs have been written in our bassist Brian’s little kitchen over a 12-pack and a joint”.
"This House Has Been Condemned" was recorded at The Magic Closet - http://www.themagiccloset.net, located in the historic Meek family house in the Sellwood neighborhood of Portland, OR. Owned and operated by Watts since 2005.
