Punch capacitor

A punch capacitor is a large capacitor installed in car audio systems. It is typically one Farad or more in capacitance, and as big as a spray paint can. It is used as a decoupling capacitor: They draw energy from the car battery when the sound system doesn't, store that energy, and deliver that energy to the sound system when the battery can't supply enough power. This supposedly reduces distortion and makes the sound cleaner, while preventing the sound system from stealing power from the car's lights and other electrical equipment.
