Magiboards

Magiboards Ltd is a UK based manufacturer of presentation & display products. The company was established in 1966 and is the oldest manufacturer and inventor of the whiteboards. The founder of Magiboards, the late Mr Albert Stallion, worked for an American manufacturer of Vitreous Enamel Steel (Alliance). This material was used among other applications for architectural cladding and when Albert looked at the properties of the material he thought it might be a good material to use as a dry wipe whiteboard surface: after all, marker ink would not penetrate the surface, it was scratch resistant and would remain white for life. When Albert raised this idea he was laughed away, so he decided to turn it into a whiteboard himself and this is how Magiboards saw the light and invented the vitreous enamel steel or porcelain whiteboard.
Although this history is largely anecdotal the story has been confirmed by various people, including his former wife and, more importantly, a former colleague of Mr Stallion, Mr Bill Smit, who worked with Mr Stallion at Alliance at the time and, inspired by his success, went on to establish his own company Smit Visual Supplies BV in the Netherlands. Mr Bill Smit has retired and his company is now run by his son Peter.
After 45 years Vitreous Enamel Steel is still the highest quality and most widely sold whiteboard grade world wide, even though cheaper and lower grade surfaces have made their appearance over the years. Magiboards, although under new ownership, are still manufacturing presentation & display products and enamel steel boards are still one of their core products, because of their life time guarantee.
