Power Continuity Systems

PowerContinuity Systems is a UK based power protection company composed of a team of engineers, operating from locations across the UK. Engineers who work for the company regularly have 25 years of experience in the design, installation, maintenance and upgrade of uninterruptible power supplies, emergency power systems and diesel generators. PowerContinuity Systems is a registered trade mark and the company is well known for its slogan, ‘failure is not an option.’
Profile
PowerContinuity systems design and implement automatic power protection systems that enable any location to be independent of mains power in the event of a power outage, hence true power continuity. Company operations and installations cover the markets in the UK, Ireland, France, Germany, Holland, Belgium, Italy and North Africa.
Independence
An aspect of that is extremely important to the company is independence. PowerContinuity Systems is an independent company and does not attribute praise or supply from a single manufacturer, due to any remuneration or share in ownership.
Implementation
Any environment, from Hospitals to IT services, that require seamless clean power without breaks or spikes, requires power continuity. To ensure sure a clean power stream the company designs bespoke power protection systems. The company typically provides UPS and Generator Systems in combinations, for power protection installations at Hospitals, Banks, IT Data Centres, and global brands such as Burberry Plc. The company is involved with the customer’s requirements from contemplation to implementation.
Product Range
Ecological Range
PowerContinuity Systems ECO range of Three Phase UPS power systems are those that have the highest achievable UK Governments Energy Technology criteria, as assessed by the ETL, the official, UK independent body that records the technical information provided by UPS manufacturers to explain how efficient their UPS are, in comparison to their power usage at different levels of load.
Many UPS manufacturers readily offer such information. Some of the highest achieving ECO UPS are made by Chloride Group and Emerson Network Power, both who offer devices that operate at 100% load at unity power factor.
PowerContinuity Systems install different generators from a number of world renowned engine manufacturers. Believing in ecological standards these engines allow fuel choice by the client. By far the most commonly used generators are those running on Red Diesel which is sometimes termed heavy fuel oil. Other generators can be adapted or built to run on a variety of fuels, including Biodiesel.
Uninterruptible Power Supplies
An uninterruptible power supply or UPS is a combination of sophisticated electronics and one or more batteries, which are connected between the incoming mains power and another electrical device, which requires the power. For example: a PC or Monitor. The UPS allows the power to be cleaned of spikes and brownouts as well as, in the event of a Power outage for some seconds or minutes, the power to be undisputed. This is achieved by the electrical power stored in the onboard lead acid or NiCad Batteries, within the unit. The electrical power storage time is chosen by the client and can be anything from 30 seconds up to many hours. Typically the time is short, minutes rather than hours, as longer autonomy is usually provided by emergency power generators, which support any UPS installation.
Diesel Generators
Generators are the most common form of power production in the world. In fact it could be said that our modern world would not have made so much progress without the invention of the power generator or more recently mobile generator power plants.
Today most critical power environments have an emergency standby generator that will produce backup power, in the case of a power outage. These generators start up when they sense a power drop or power loss and will provide immediate emergency power to a preset requirement for hours or days, dependent on the size of their fuels tanks.
PowerContinuity Systems designs and installs generators in sizes from 20kVA to 3.5 megawatts and beyond.
Static Transfer Switches
When there are two incoming supplies from two different transformers or substations fed by the mains then in the event of a power loss from either supply the static switch will allow instantaneous transfer of power supply from one feed to another. PowerContinuity Systems designs and has installed static switches from 1mVA to 5mVA.
UPS Batteries
Modern day technology hasn’t really affected the type of batteries still used by the majority of uninterruptible power supplies, in use worldwide. The heart of stored power in UPS systems is still mostly sealed lead-acid batteries. All batteries have a life span which can vary according to the load and ambient temperature of the environment.
Generator Batteries
One of the most common reason why a generator fails to start is the battery which initiates the starter motor has reached end of life and has no voltage. As in a car battery situation, a generator battery should be regularly checked for corrosion and the generator battery terminals clean and greased.
UPS Installation
UPS installation is a service more associated with power protection systems, hard wired in to the infrastructure of a building, rather than just an out of the box UPS device. PowerContinuity Systems design, supply and installs complete automated UPS power protection systems. ‘With great power comes great responsibility,’ so the saying goes, therefore it is essential to maintain a UPS power system in optimum operational performance.
Generator Installation
Installing a generator as part of an uninterruptible power system has the advantage of creating a fully automatic power protection system that is able to provide permanent power in the case of a power outage. PowerContinuity Systems has been known to install multiple generators as part of a fully installed emergency power systems.
Quality Standards
PowerContinuity Systems company is fully accredited - ISO 9001, ISO 27001, ISO 14001, BS 25999, OHSAS 18001
