Basilio Grillo Miceli (Vittoria, 18 July 1937) is the current head of the Italian Autonomous Orthodox Church, who claims the title of Metropolitan of Ravenna, L'Aquila and Italy. Metropolitan Basilio was born in 1937 in Vittoria (near Ragusa, Sicily) and in 1981 was ordained priest of the Russian Orthodox Church. After the break-up of the presence of the Moscow Patriarchate in Italy, in 1995 he became bishop of Ostia under a moderate jurisdiction of Greek Old Calendarists movement. In 1996 he became orthodox Archbishop of Ostia. In 2008 he joined the Orthodox Church in Italy, as vicar of Metropolitan Antonio and Archbishop of Florence. After Metropolitan Antonio's death, the Bulgarian Alternative Synod refused to recognize him as Primate. In 2010 he founded a new "Italian Autonomous Orthodox Church". Metropolitan Basilio was also a close friend of the Patriarch Filaret of Ukraine, in whose election he participated in 1995.
