Piss Metal (also know as pissmetal and piss-metal) is a mixture of the speed and intensity of death metal and the actual recorded sound of human and animal urine projected against various materials at differing velocities. This experimental technique has marked out Piss Metal bands for ridicule by more mainstream death metal bands and has caused controversy during live shows. Band members have been known to produce live Piss Metal sounds using on-the-fly recording and sampling techniques. Crowd participation is encouraged and many Piss Metal gigs have been forced outdoors to illegal venues, such as disused car parks and quarries. Fans of the sub-genre are affectionately know as "Pissheads" and can be spotted before gigs consuming and purchasing more liquid than is necessary for adequate hydration.
