Pioneer Ridge is named Pioneer Ridge,
*to honor not only past pioneers, but also present and future leaders who will have a lasting impact on the community.
*Because the school sits on a ridge overlooking the valley to the north.
About Pioneer Ridge
Pioneer Ridge opened in the fall of 2000 and houses grades 6-8. Divided into five separate areas, or communities, the 129,000 square foot building includes 66 classrooms, 2 gymnasiums, a commons area, administrative offices, and a science center. The name of the school was selected because it reflects the many pioneers who have been a part of Independence history and for those who will be part of the new century.
6th Grade Center
When Pioneer Ridge Opened in 2000 it was the 6th Grade Center for the school district along with the 7th Grade Center, And 8th Grade Center. Its Original Colors Were Purple,Teal,And White. Before The Independence Public School District acquired 7 schools From the now unaccredited Kansas City Public Schools in 2007, at the end of the 2006-2007 school year the district decided that they would make the 6th 7th and 8th grade centers all house grades 6-8.
Science Center
The Science Center At Pioneer Ridge is used for field trips and includes a Star Lab, Many Stations including solar power,Electricity,Reflection,Stars,Planets,ect...
