Sensei Devadanam

INTRODUCTION

Mr. Devadanam hails from Vishakhapatnam and has had advanced training in Karate, Judo, Aikido, Jujitsu, Savate, Kick Boxing, Kung Fu, Weapons (Nan-Chaku, Chimato, Yawara, Sal, Tonfa, Sword, Baton, Etc.) and also specialization in Self Defense Technics. He received BLACK BELT IVTH DAN in Martial Arts from National Federation of Oriental Martial Arts, Nasik, Maharashtra, India, and was selected as Technical Director and Weapons Training In-charge of the National Federation of Oriental Martial Arts, India. He was elected as Secretary and Coach for Academy Of Oriental Martial Arts, Vishakhapatnam, which is affiliated to many worldwide Martial Arts Federations and Associations. He worked as Martial Arts Instructor to Royal Oman Police in Sultanate of Oman for their special task force, which is responsible for the security of VIPS and National Security.
EXCEPTIONAL ACHIEVEMENTS/CONTRIBUTIONS

Mr. Devadanam was conferred the title of "weapons expert" by National Federation of Oriental Martial Arts, India. He has trained students, both in boys and girls schools, colleges, universities, and public and private institutions in martial arts. He also trained the police and navy personnel in Andhra Pradesh state, para-military troops at their headquarters in Nasik, Air Force teams at Ozar, Counter-Terrorist and Commando Troops in Delhi. He has trained the special task force teams in all forms of self defense unarmed combat arts, anti-riot assaults, VIP protection, and Counter-Terrorist techniques. He was elected as Director of Weapons Training by the National Federation of Oriental Martial Arts, India. He served as technical sub-editor for National Martial Arts Magazine. He also served as referee for World Karate Championship competitions held at Dubai, UAE, in 1990. Out of 16 instructors in Special Task Force of Royal Oman Police, he was the only man from India, the rest being from Scotland Yard.
His training program of self defense was telecast for two days in Gulf Television during Gulf war 1990. He defeated all the opponents who had come from the various countries in a practical and assault competition - “BEST ONE WILL SERVE”, which was held at Royal Oman Police Head Quarters, Muscat.
He has taken part in state and national championships and won many state and national competitions.
He also won gold medals and was ranked #1 for four consecutive years from 1981-1984 in Karate, Judo, Aikido, Jujitsu, and Kung Fu, Katas (Weapons) in National full contact-Knock down martial arts championships held in Nasik, Pune, Mumbai, and Andhra Pradesh.
He conducted 12-week base course or Police constable recruits of Vishakhapatnam district in Marital Arts.
Also, he was the Adviser for Oman Karate Do Federation, Muscat, and Member of “World Self Defense Federation, USA and also Member of "World Martial Arts Federation", Washington, USA.
He was the advisor for International Police Martial Arts Association, Canada.
He invented dangerous fire breaking techniques i.e., breaking a bunch of 18 pieces of burning tiles with forehead etc.
QUOTATIONS STATEMENTS, HONORS AND AWARDS

Mr. Devadanam won an award “OUTSTANDING INSTRUCTOR” at Special Task Force, Royal Oman Police Academy, Muscat, Sultanate of Oman, highly esteemed by The Inspector General Of Police, And Customs Of The Sultanate, official recognition and appreciation from American Ambassador, USA, Award of PROFICIENCY IN JUDO AND KARATE by Ys Men International, Award of WEAPONS EXPERT by National Federation Of Oriental Martial Arts, India, Award ANDHRA PEARL by press council of Vishakhapatnam, Official appreciation received from Gulf Cooperation Council.
Mr. Devadanam has now taken up the task of creating champions out of street urchins by training them in Judo as well as taking the financial responsibility for the same. He has been consistently serving the Martial Arts till date.
JUDO IN VISHAKHAPATNAM

In 1997, Mr. Devadanam was nominated by A. P. Judo Association as Coastal Andhra Coordinator to promote Judo at Srikakulam to East Godavari. With his hard work and sincere efforts judo camps were organized at coastal districts. First judo camp was held at Vishakhapatnam in 1998 by DMM Seshagiri, Black Belt JFI, NIS, NDIO, and Ch. Devadanam, Black Belt, JFI with the help of local karate instructors like P. Narasimha Rao, K. Israel, and Ch. Samuel Raju. It resulted in bronze medal in senior division by G. Sivararamakrishna (first medal for Vishakhapatnam), one silver and two bronze in sub-junior division in 1998, one silver in junior division, three bronze medals, sub-junior division in 1999 and one gold medal in school games federation by V. Chandrasekhar.
With financial and full fledged support of Mr. Rolland Williams, first Vishakhapatnam district judo championship was conducted on 23rd July 2000 at YMCA for kids, sub-junior, juniors and seniors (boys, girls, men, and women). In this championship 198 participants from 12 clubs participated. A. P. Judo association, president Shri K. Ravindra and Shri P. Babulal, Secretary, A. P. Judo association and Shri D. M. M. Seshagiri extended their valuable guidance and support from time to time to promote Judo in and around Vishakhapatnam.
Mr. Devadanam is currently running a college of martial arts in Vishakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, since 1981, which is affiliated to the National Federation of Oriental Martial Arts. Lectures on self defense have been broadcast on All India Radio from time to time. So far many articles, regular columns on self defense have been published in prestigious newspapers viz., Times of India, Indian Express.
More than 150 demonstrations have been given all over India by him, and so far he has given training to over 2000 policemen at Special Task Force, Royal Oman Police, Muscat.
