Hagan Elementary School

Hagan Elementary is located on 42 Hagan Drive in the Town of Poughkeepsie, New York. As of 2008, there are 467 students in the school. Dr. Eileen Sicina has been the principal since 1992. Hagan Elementary was first built in 1965. Other schools in the district are Orville A. Todd Middle School, Nassau k through 2 Elementary School, and Spackenkill High School. There are 50 teachers in the school. There 2 through 5th grade, and there are four classrooms in each grade. The school hours are between 8:30 AM and 3:00 PM.
Part of the school mission is valuing the importance of developing good citizenry and realizing individuality in the students. Hagan School helps support the district goals. Some of those goals are to improve academic performance and further the districts positive reputation.
History
Hagan School was the fourth school added to the Spackenkill School District. The school used to be called Hagan Drive School. It was a one-room school house. Mr. John Hagan was a farmer in the area. Near the farm, there was a small zoo. The farm used to breed Black Angus cattle and quarter horses.
School Activities
Hagan Elementary School has many interesting activities, clubs and field trips. Each grade has a few field trips per year. Some of them include:
* Kindergarten: Sprout Creek Farm
* First Grade: Bardavon 1869 Opera House
* Second Grade: Martime Aquarium
* Third Grade: Bronx Zoo
* Fourth grade: Carnegie Hall, MOMA, and the New York State Capitol
* Fifth Grade - Sharpe Reservation (2 nights).
There are five clubs. They are:
* Garden Club
* Art Club
* Computer Club
* Jogging Club
* Book Club.
Hagan also has many in-school events. A few important ones are the art shows, 5th grade science fair, some dances and musicals. An event that everyone at Hagan looks forward to is field day. At the end of the year there is a themed, non-competitive field day. It includes both wet and dry activities.
