NorthStarUK

NorthStarUK was set up in 1999 as an asynchronous online secondary learning community. Its purpose was to provide learning materials and tutorial support to students and their parents, based upon a British curriculum model.
Because of its asynchronous learning model, NorthStarUK has attracted students from around the world who have not been hampered by issues relating to time zones.. Current students can be found in a wide number of countries in Africa, Asia, South America and Europe. NorthStarUK works with home educating families and small to medium sized schools where it is able to assist in the expansion of curriculum options in a very flexible manner. NorthStarUK has also worked very successfully with students in the UK who are unable to attend conventional school because of medical conditions, particularly those affected by ME/CFS/PVFS (Myalgic Encephalopathy/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/Post Viral Fatigue Syndrome).
The work of NorthStarUK is underpinned by a Christian worldview. As an organization, however, it is open to students of any faith position.
Between 1999 and 2006 NorthStarUK made use of FirstClass, an online communication platform, now known as FirstClass Communication Platform. Moodle was adopted as NorthStarUK’s new Virtual Learning Environment at the start of the 2006-2007 academic year.
Although originally set up by Steve Richards, ownership was transferred to The Veritas Trust, a not for profit organization in 2001. In 2008 NorthStarUK had 110 students.
