Nilosree Biswas is an independent filmmaker from India. She has been making non-fiction films since 1997. In 1998, she floated her own platform ‘CINEMATHEQUE’ to produce meaningful non-fiction along with like minded and expert technicians. She has been specializing in commissioned documentaries for several international organizations inclusive of UN bodies like UNICEF, UNIFEM. In these last ten years she worked as a producer-director-scriptwriter of several documentaries on women`s issues, child rights, human interest etc. Her films have been screened in USA, Morocco, Brazil and India. Her first film A Courtyard Tale has been screened in the Bharat Utsav India festival abroad. Apart from commissioned films by international NGOs like Oxfam GB, she also has been working on HD documentaries for Caldecott Productions International (a part of Media Corp Singapore). As the maiden project for Caldicott she has produced a 52-minute HD documentary on India`s Dalit leader Ruth Manorama, a Nobel Prize nominee, followed by the India title of an Asian TV series called Women, Water and 100 Miles, which later went on to win the best cinematography award in New York Festival, 2009. Her hour-length film on alternative pedagogy of primary school students produced for Child Rights and You - CRY (India's one of the leading child rights organizations) is used as a advocacy tool across the country. As somebody who has a full overview of development communication Biswas has contributed to several publications on development issues of India including publications like The Hindu and Tehelka to her credit Her consultancy period with Women`s World Banking as a communication expert in 2006, saw her developing advocacy tools for the entire country on the theme of microfinance and women with large advertising agencies like Publicis Bombay and Mudra Ahmedabad. She had been a communication consultant for Oxfam GB as well as Oxfam India. Produced and directed * 30-minute film on land rights movement of Marathwada, Maharastra (Jameen Adhikar Andolan) supported by OXFAM India * 20-minute video on Fisherwomen’s Collective in coastal Orissa for Oxfam GB India Post production for a UNESCO / Kala Raksha documentation on Master Artisans of Kutch and Design *Preproduction for a 90 min HD documentary on ‘Women of Kashmir’ * 52-minute feature-length documentary titled Women, Water and 1000 miles (HDV) for Caldecott Productions International (Winner of Best Camera Work in New York Festival, 2009) *Post producing 40 mins documentary supported by UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific Cultural Organization.) for Kalaraksha, Kutch, Gujarat * 52-minute feature length documentary on Ruth Manorama (HDV) for Caldecott Productions International
