Nicholas Michael Hypolite (born May 6, 1986 in Swindon, Wiltshire, England) is a basketball player for the East Durham Devils of the EBL. He is a point and shooting guard.
Biography From a young age, Nic Hypolite showed sporting ability. He played soccer in school leagues at age 8 with players two to three years older, played for professional club academies, and led junior leagues in scoring for years. Hypolite then switched his attentions to ice hockey and excelled there too. Finally, he took up basketball, which would become the basis of his career.
Early career Hypolite began playing for his high school team in 2000, leading the team to the city championship finals with a 13-0 record before losing in the final game. He averaged 31.2 points per game and 4.2 assists per game. Also in this season, he began playing league basketball for the Swindon Sonics, where his statistics were less outstanding. Suffering because of height (at the time he was 5'8), experience and playing time, he averaged 7.4 points per game on a team that finished third in a district league of five teams.
In the following season, he led his high school team to a completely undefeated season, in which they captured the city championship. Notably, in the championship game, he alone scored 45 points while the opposing team scored 44 collectively. There were many other occasions of him outscoring the opposing team. He still played league basketball for the Swindon Sonics, this season leading the team to the district league championship and averaging 27.2 points per game and 5.3 assists per game.
Hypolite joined Cirencester College after high school and immediately led the team to a 13-1 season in which they captured the county championship. During the season, he averaged 45.3 points per game and 6.3 assists per game, scoring over 50 points four times and scoring below 35 points only once. He continued with the Swindon Sonics and averaged 32.2 points per game and 5.2 assists per game there; the team finished in fourth place. Also, during this season, he made four appearances with the Minor Minutes, scoring six points in four minutes in two games. He did not appear regularly because coach Ken Walton believed he was too young and inexperienced.
Hypolite left Cirencester College next year becauseof lack of competition. He remained with the Swindon Sonics and the team finished the season 10-9. Hypolite averaged a league-leading 31.2 points per game and 5.2 assists per game, including 4 games in which he scored 50 points, two of which were back to back and one of which was against the Plymouth Raiders. He continued to play small minutes for the men's team, and led the team in points per minute.
