Nazaaray is the trading name of Melbourne's Ghumman family, including a winery and two holiday cottages located on the Mornington Peninsula, southeast of Melbourne, Australia. Winemaking The Nazaaray Estate Winery is an boutique winery in Australia. It is one of the smallest and southern-most vineyards on the Mornington Peninsula. Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, the two classic Burgundian varieties, are grown on a north facing slope that sits 750 feet above sea level and about 3 kilometres inland. Most of the vine rows run north-south to get maximum exposure to the sun. Traditional Burgundian vineyard management including spur-pruning and wine-making methods including open-vat fermentation are employed in wine production. Grapes are hand-picked, and all wine is made and bottled on site. Relatively high rainfall in the area and the deep basalt soil makes irrigation unnecessary. Awards Nazaaray wines have won People's Choice Awards at Federation Square in both 2007 and 2008, and is the favoured wine of Richard Pratt. Ownership & Management Nazaaray is an Australian Indian-owned winery. The winemaker, Paramdeep Ghumman is an Indian-born Sikh engineer. The travel and leisure operations are run by his wife, Nirmal Ghumman.
