Nathan Hofheins

Nathan Hofheins (b. April 9, 1971) is an active composer/arranger of music for film, television, and concert stage. He is currently Artist-in-Residence at Utah Valley University (UVU) teaching Commercial Music. He is also President and founder of Wholenote Music, Inc.
Commercial Music
As a commercial artist, Hofheins has written and arranged music for many television and cable networks including ESPN, Fox Sports, ABC, NBC. His more notable packages in current use for television and cable include main theme packages for ESPN College Football, ESPN Major League Soccer, and ESPN Golf. For the cinema, Hofheins' compositions are found in film trailers such as Home (Dreamworks), Deepsea Challenge 3D (National Geographic), Spiderman 1 (Sony), The Contender (Dreamworks), Muppets from Space (Columbia Pictures), and others. He has also written extensively for Warner-Chappell Production Music (previously known as Non-Stop Music Library).
Hofheins' most notable film and television credits as lead orchestrator include The Librarian (TNT), The Legend of the Seeker (Buena Vista), Spartacus (Starz), Hercules (USA Network), and Xena: Warrior Princess (Renaissance Pictures).
Sacred Music
In the sacred music realm, Hofheins has been commissioned for works by organizations such as the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square (S.L.C., UT), Cherry Creek Presbyterian Church (Denver, CO), Northside Church (Atlanta, GA), Valley Choral Society (Sacramento, CA), Brigham Young University, and the Barlow Endowment for Musical Composition (Provo, UT). Several of his choral arrangements for these organizations have been recorded and distributed worldwide. They are also published by Oxford University Press.
Personal life
Hofheins was the last of ten children born to Cloyd C. and Joan Lloyd Hofheins. He was born and raised in Provo, Utah. At the age of 10, he began playing the clarinet and studied clarinet and saxophone through high school and college.
From 1990 to 1992, Hofheins served as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) in Montreal, Canada, speaking both French and English. Upon return, he resumed studies in music at BYU, where he met Lisa Ann Rhodes. They were married in 1993 in Salt Lake City.
After graduating from BYU in 1996 with a Bachelor of Arts in Music, Hofheins began freelance composing, performing as a studio and theater musician on woodwinds, and copying music for film and television. In 1999, he commenced graduate studies in Composition at BYU under David Sargent, Murray Boren, and Stephen Jones. He graduated in 2005 with an M.M. (Composition) degree.
Hofheins has continued as an active composer and arranger in many genres. In 2013, he accepted a full-time Artist-in-Residence position at UVU teaching Commercial Music. He lives with his wife and three children in Pleasant Grove, Utah and is actively involved in the LDS Church, currently serving as a bishop.
