Camille Fronk Olson

Camille Fronk Olsen is a professor of Ancient Scripture at Brigham Young University (BYU). She is the author of the book Mary, Martha and Me. She has a Ph.D. in sociology of the Middle East.
Life
Camille was raised in Tremonton, Utah. She has a BA in Education from Utah State University, an MA in near eastern studies and a Ph.D. in Sociology-Near East both from BYU. Camille served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) in France in the late 1970s. She was a seminary teacher and latter Dean of students at LDS Business College before joining the BYU faculty. She also was an instructor for a time at the LDS Institute of Religion in Salt Lake City. The character Sister Fronk in the movie ' is named after her due to Richard Dutcher having had her as a seminary teacher. Olson has participated in many continuing education forums, as well as in at least one meeting that involved dialoging between Latter-day Saint and Evangelical scholars. Olson also currently serves as one of seven advisors to the Religious Studies Center at BYU.
She is married to Paul F. Olson and lives in the Grandview area of Provo, Utah. She has been an instructor at BYU since 1993, gaining the rank of professor in 1996.
Written works
Besides Mary, Martha and Me, Olson co-authored Women of the Old Testament with Elspeth Young (illustrator) and also wrote Too Much To Carry Alone and In The Hands of the Potter. She also edited the 2003 publication of the Sperry Symposium along with Thomas A. Wayment and Brian M. Hauglid. She has also written several book chapters, including "LDS Women and Education" in A Twenty-Something's Guide to Spirituality edited by Jacob Werrett and David Read; "The Mission of the Holy Ghost: From Believing to Becoming" in Roger R. Keller and Robert L. Millet ed., Salvation in Christ: Comparitavie Christian View (Provo: BYU Religious Studies Center, 2005); "The Joys and Challenges of Marrying Later in Life" in Helping and Healing Our Families, Principals and Practices Inspired by "The Family: A Proclamation to the World" ed., C. H. Hunt, Lloyd Newell, E. Walton, D. C. Dollahite. (Salt Lake City: Deseret Book, 2005). She has also written multiple articles on sociological issues related to Palestine with Ray L. Huntington and Bruce A. Chadwick that have been published in such journals as The Eastern Anthropologist (such as Vol. 52, no. 3, p. 210-236) Sex Roles and The International Journal of Sociology and the Family.
