Mountain Ridge Middle School

Mountain Ridge Middle School (commonly abbreviated MRMS or referred to simply as Mountain Ridge) is a middle school located in northeastern Colorado Springs, Colorado serving grades 6 through 8. It has been known as one of the top middle schools in the United States of America for many years, and serves as the best middle school in Academy School District 20. The school is one of the middle schools in Academy School District 20 (the others being Challenger Middle School, Eagleview Middle School, and Timberview Middle School) and primarily serves students in northwestern Colorado Springs, although students living elsewhere in the district can choose to attend Mountain Ridge should their assigned schools not fit their needs. The Mountain Ridge school colors are green and purple while its mascot is the grizzly bear. It currently has about 1,200 enrolled students and feeds into Rampart High School. Mountain Ridge Middle School is one of the only two middle schools in Colorado Springs offering the International Baccalaureate Programme, the other being North Middle School, and is the only middle school in academy school district 20 offering the International Baccalaureate Programme.

Extracurricular activities

Students can participate in a variety of activities before and after school, including athletics and academic competitions. Mountain Ridge offers basketballs, American football, softball, track, cross country running, volleyball, and wrestling.

Academic extracurricular activities are also offered at Mountain Ridge. Among them are forensics, Science Olympiad, MathCounts, spelling bee practices, and geography bee practices.

Honor rolls

There are three honor rolls: the Principal's Honor Roll, Merit Honor Roll, and Honorable Mention Honor Roll. Each are private, making them not accesable by other students.

Achievements

* Mountain Ridge Middle School has consistently been one of the top-performing schools on the Colorado Student Assessment Program, scoring excellent for the years 2003-04 and 2005-06.
* In recent years Mountain Ridge has competed excellently in the Pikes Peak Chapter of the Colorado MathCounts competition. In the 2008 MathCounts Pikes Peak Regional competition, Mountain Ridge Middle School placed first.
