Escaflowne mechs

Escaflowne is an anime TV show, and later a movie. Even though it is set during medieval times, it has lots of big mechs, which one would only expect to see in the future. The mechs in this show are called guymelefs. A guymelef is piloted by a person in the cockpit that has mechanical sensors attached to the to him. The pilot operates such a mech by moving his body in the way which he wants his mech to move. They all are powered by a crystal of the mineral Energist. These come from dragons, and are found in a dragon where one would expect to find a heart in any other animal. Some are also equipped with cool accessories such as HUDs (heads up diplays), hand controls, and cloaking devices. So here are a list of the mechs in Escaflowne.

One of a kind guymelefs
Escaflowne
This mech is piloted by Van, who is the king of the country Fanelia. Escaflowne doesn't have any special weapons. It only has a long sword. When not engaged in battle, this sword is left in a sheath on the mech's back. When fighting, Van causes Escaflowne to draw its sword, and then the blade telescopes out of the handle ans is ready for battle. It also has the ability to transform into the shape of a winged dragon. In dragon mode, it can glide with its wings, but it doesn't seem to have it's own propulsion. In one episode, it also transformed into the shape of a supersonic jet craft, complete with afterburners. It used this speed boost to get away from the villains. However, it can't fight well in the air. It is designed for ground combat. It was manufactured by a strange intelligent species of alien known as the Ispanos. In one episode, it is shown to be able to actually somehow directly connect with Van. This allowed van to see cloaked enemy mechs and destroy them all, but the effect also made him go berserker and kill the enemies with psychotic happiness. In another episode, it was shown that the Ispanos could be called to fix the mech by a button in the cockpit. And it was also shown that once Van had linked (mentally, mystically, or whatever) with Escaflowne, battle damage to the mech caused Van himself to have physical damage. So a slash through the armor plating on the arm of his mech would actually cause a bleeding cut on his own arm at the exact corresponding point as the damage to the mech. It sort of is like a voodoo doll after he linked with it.

Scherazade
This mech is piloted by Allen Schezar, who is a top knight of the kingdom of Asturia. His rank is Knight Caeli. His mech also has a long sword, much like that of Escaflowne. However, Scherazade's sword looks more like a jousting lance. And like with escaflowne, its sword is its only weapon. Unlike Escaflowne, Scherazade is unable to fly. It is entirely designed for ground movement. However, its maneuverability is equal to that of Escaflowne when on the ground.

Guymelef classes
Alseides class guymelefs
These are the mechs used by the soldiers of the Zaibach Empire. This empire is collectively the villain in the show. The Alseides class of guymelefs are extremely advanced. They have the ability to actively fly with a propulsion system. They can also become invisible with a special cloaking device called a "stealth cloak". However, they can't fly while cloaked. They are all equiped with the advanced weapon system known the "crima claw". This weapon consists of a reservoir of a special liquid metal, as well as the correct plumbing to shoot it out of guns (1 on each arm and each with 5 barrels). Sounds stupid right? Wrong! This metal becomes solidified when it exits the barrel of the gun, so it becomes like an extendable spike that shoots outward at ballistic velocities. Since it is shaped to a sharp point before leaving the gun, it can act as an armor piercing shot, and it will take down almost any mech that gets hit by it. Because it is sprayed out, it leaves a long cable of its special metal behind the tip of the spike. This means that the back end can be converted back into liquid and sucked back into the liquid metal reservoir. This enables the entire spike to be retracted, thereby conserving ammo. Also, this metal can be emitted in small amounts from the gun barrels and then be solidified into various melee type weapons (swords, battle axes, etc.). Also they can act as tentacles. In at least one episode, they spike shot was at full extension but the tips were moving as if they were hands on long arms, and the cables also moved as if they were arms. I one episode, a single small spike (too small to take down a mech) was fired without leaving a cable attached to the mech. It was shot through one of the good guys in the show. So it appears it also has antipersonnel capability. Also it is possible to use it as a sniping weapon. In one episode, a crima claw spike is launched a couple miles away, and almost kills Van, except Hitomi pushes him out of the way just before impact. One of the downsides is that this metal is extremely flammable in it's liquid form. If it takes damage to its liquid metal reservoir, it's toast. However, this same fact allows it to be used as ammo for a flamethrower. The same gun barrels that shoot the spikes can also are the barrels when used as flamethrower. All viewing of the surroundings of the pilot is done by a HUD or Heads Up Display in the cockpit that looks something like a periscope screen. And this screen is attached to a camera or other visual sensor outside the cockpit on a pilot operated tentacle (similar to but different from the crima claw).

Also there are 2 colors for this mech. Blue Alseides guymelefs are piloted by the average Zaibach pilot. The red Alseides guymelef is piloted by Dilandau, who is the head of the guymelef pilots of the Zaibach Empire.

Oreades class guymelefs
This new class of mech isn't really that new. It is just an upgraded version of the previous class, the Alseides. The Oreades guymelefs (unlike the Alseides) can fly while cloaked. However, only two were ever produced. The red Oreades is piloted by Dilandau. The blue one is piloted by Jajuka, a friend of Dilandau.

Teiring class guymelefs
This is an experimental class. It is designed for high speed flight and can easily outrun an Alseides or Oreades guymelef. It also has a clima claw machine gun. This gun rapidfires short metal clima claw spikes. This works because no metal cable is left attached to the mech after firing a shot. Only 2 were ever built. These were piloted by the catgirls Naria and Eriya.
