Modular Wind Energy

Modular Wind Energy (ModWind) is an American-based manufacturer of segmented wind turbine blades. They manufacture a patented segmented blade that is produced in Huntington Beach, California as part of the area's growing clean technology sector. Modular Wind Energy is the first commercially viable divided blade to pass the fatigue test required by the IEC standard. They are currently transitioning from the research and development phase to the commercialization phase under the direction of CEO Gregor Gnaedig.
Organization
Modular Wind Energy was founded in Long Beach, California in 2008. In 2010 they moved their operations to Huntington Beach, California to start production on their first set of blades. They then hired Gregor Gnaedig of REpower Systems as CEO, transitioning co-founder Myles Baker to the CTO position. Modular Wind Energy's segmented blades are seen as a step-forward in the wind power industry, given their ability to circumvent the transportation and logistical issues that traditional blades have. The first segmented blades produced by Modular Wind Energy are set to be installed in Europe by the third quarter of 2012. The first set of blades in the US will be installed shortly after.
