Salvagnini

Founding
Salvagnini was founded in Milan in 1963 by Guido Salvagnini to manufacture hydraulic power packs. In 1968, Salvagnini entered the sheet metal process automation sector, then in its very early stages. Transferics, a new technology for transferring workpieces from one point to another quickly and accurately, was born and patented.
In 1975, the company moved to its current location and changed its name to Salvagnini Transferica. Two years later, Guido Salvagnini invented and started to market the first Panel Bender (the P4), a programmable computer-controlled machine for bending a sheet of metal on all four sides, flexibly and automatically. But it was at the EMO trade fair at Hanover in 1979 that Salvagnini came to the attention of the international market, presenting an integrated production line formed of an S4 punch-shear and a P4 Panel Bender.
This marked the birth of the very first flexible and automatic sheet metal panel production system, heralding the concept of “Flexible Manufacturing System” (FMS) that would only establish itself in the sector a number of years later. Salvagnini had proved itself to be a technological benchmark for the entire sheet metal forming sector.
Expansion in Europe and worldwide
In the 1980s, Salvagnini’s technology soon began to expand into markets the world over. A number of subsidiaries were opened in quick succession to cover local markets and provide first-rate customer service: Salvagnini France (1981), Salvagnini America (1984), Salvagnini Deutschland (1988) and Salvagnini Scandinavia (1989).
In 1985, the first flexible and integrated automatic system, composed of multiple process lines for uninterrupted production in an unmanned lights-out environment, was sold to an American client. In the same year, Salvagnini introduced Pro-Nest, the first software for the automatic nesting and optimization of punch-shearing programs.
1993 marked the births of Salvagnini Italia and, following the acquisition of part of Voest Alpine, Salvagnini Maschinenbau. During the next ten years, the company concentrated on developing its products and expanding its presence worldwide by opening a number of other subsidiaries.
In 1994, the L1 was introduced, using laser technology to cut sheet metal: the company was now a global supplier of sheet metal processing systems. In the same year, Salvagnini Korea and Salvagnini Japan were set up. 1997 marked the introduction of the world’s first ever robotic panel bending cell, managed by a single and totally integrated controller, allowing panels and parts to be handled flexibly and automatically and eliminating the step of robot "teaching".
Salvagnini UK & Ireland was opened the same year. In 1998, Salvagnini built the S2, the industry's first punching system with a double multi-press head, a double manipulator with linear motors and a double automatic loading/unloading system. Salvagnini Nederland and Salvagnini Industriale (the second production site in Italy) were set up at the same time.
Technology development
In the year 2000, the new high-speed L2 laser cutting machine, styled by PININFARINA, with flying optics and - for the very first time - linear motors, was presented to the marketplace. In the same year, Salvagnini introduced the P4-2533 Panel Bender, the first automatic system in the world to be capable of making bends up to 330 mm high. At the same time, Salvagnini Maschinenbau moved from Linz to a modern new production facility in Ennsdorf.
2001 saw the arrival of the Roboformer, an innovative machine for automatically and flexibly bending sheet metal, capable of going directly from drawing to finished part simply and safely without stopping. Shanghai Salvagnini Int’l Trading opened the same year.
At EuroBlech in 2002, Salvagnini presented a P4 Panel Bender equipped with the revolutionary proprietary Advanced Bending Technology system. ABT is a set of rules, formulae, algorithms and devices that make machine behavior more stable and repetitive, thus boosting performance while simplifying operation and reducing energy consumption. The Group continued to expand: the need for more space led to the transferal of a number of subsidiaries to their present sites: in 2005, Salvagnini Japan moved to a modern building in Izumi and Salvagnini Deutschland to its new location in Huttemberg. Salvagnini Asia opened in Kuala Lumpur and, the following year, Salvagnini Iberica in Barcelona. 2008 saw Salvagnini expand towards new markets, opening subsidiaries in Mexico, Brazil and Russia.
2010 marked a milestone in the history of the company: Salvagnini launched the L3, the first ever fiber laser machine designed and built for a fiber laser source, capable of reaching the very highest levels in terms of productivity and economy.
The Group today
Salvagnini now has 4 production facilities and 18 operating companies, with 1,200 employees and a production area of 75,000 m2.
More than 4,000 Salvagnini systems have been sold and installed in 70 different countries worldwide.
Fairs and Open Houses
Trade fairs are a regular and significant appointment for Salvagnini. The company is present at the key fairs in its sector, such as LAMIERA, for the Italian market and Mediterranean basin, at Bologna in May; EUROBLECH, which is of international importance, at Hanover in October; FABTECH in the USA in November (for the American, Mexican and Canadian markets); CORTE & CONFORMAÇÃO in Brazil in October (for the South American market); METALFORMING at Tokyo in August (for the Japanese market); CIMT at Beijing in April (for the Chinese market) and METALOOBRABOTKA at Moscow in May (for the CIS countries).
Salvagnini also invests considerable time and attention in organizing Open Houses at Sarego for its worldwide sales network.
