Maxamundo

Background
Spun out of a project related to Salford University UK. Maxamundo has evolved into a free Geo Data management tool open to anybody globally. The application currently (July 09) allows registered users to add geo tag information. These tags can include a spectrum of media. Each user can add one piece of data to the top level of the map and as many personal tags as requested. The tags are categorized and can be filtered. Application has basic search feature, ability to share personal profile and pin point tag data. Application has a prototype Geo-Retail feature, allowing businesses to list goods and services relative to geo location.
The company Maxamundo was co- founded on the 23rd of October 2007 by Rod Martin and Mick Lockwood. The aim of the project and now company is to provide a map centric management tool for geo-data. Maxamundo 1.0 is just the first of a series of developments planned including depth Geo-Retail, Geo Social Network and Deployment across handheld devices.
The project has gone through a number of stages of development before the first fully function version was release on July 1st 2009. Maxamundo
Evolution
Maxamundo Furture Sonic
First development towards Maxamundo came out of a project named Mapchester developed for Futuresonic 06. The basic application was a world first when it used community gathered mapping data following anOSM mapping event in Manchester UK. The online app allowed visitors to the city festival to find events and venues.

Maxamundo Urbis
The next evolution of Mapchester saw the development of what was planned to be an instillation within the Urbis gallery in Manchester UK. The application would allow users to add data and information both locally and remotely at home. The map was to be projected at large scale within the gallery. The project was completed but was never used by Urbis, possibly because of concerns related to abuse and liability.

Maxamundo Edumundo
After Urbis the developers looked for another avenue to explore in order to keep the project alive. An Educational application seemed like one interesting direction and an application was put in for Arts Council funding to support the project. The application was rejected along with a few other funding streams. The developers decided to build the application anyway formed a company and got on with it.
This version of the application started from scratch, and became far richer technically seeing the development of the first real platform that would become Maxamundo.

Maxamundo 1.1 Geo-Retail
Maxamundo Geo-Retail 1.1 coins the phase ‘Geo-Retail_Bridge’ this allows business to not only add a point on the map communicating their trading location, but also list goods and services which can be updated at anytime. Using both the static and mobile version of the application users can find information and access media relating to retail outlets but also what products and services they provide. This again is the first realisation of detailed plans towards real Geo-Retail.
