MyTalk: A Mobile Social Community

MyTalk: A Mobile Social Community MyTalk.mobi (MyTalk®) is a location based mobile social networking company located in McLean, Virginia. The company's flagship Mytalk service integrates proximity awareness with social networking, enabling mobile device users to identify and interact with other registered MyTalk members based on their physical proximity and preferences - quickly, easily and safely. Mytalk ® is a registered Trademark of MyTalk Social Networks, Inc.<ref name="Homepage" group="" />
The Company
MyTalk® is a start-up company founded in early 2009, and within the first year released the first version of the application.<ref name="Bisnow" group="" /> MyTalk® has since been working to overcome the past limitations of location-awareness functions on mobile devices, closed network systems, and limited and expensive web access on mobile devices by utilizing recent advances in handheld mobile devices such as cellular phones and tablets with location-identifying capability and unlimited robust web access. <ref name="Homepage" group="" />
Services
Mytalk® consists of a launch application on a mobile device and a web portal from which the member registers and loads profile particulars (profile details, pictures, visibility settings, etc.) and identifies the personal segmentation and group affiliations desired. The widget on the mobile device is nothing more than a web browser launcher which incorporates location data. It has no other functionality and does not require carrier approval or certification.<ref name="Homepage" group="" />
After registering and downloading the Mytalk application to their mobile device, the Mytalk member has the ability to access a list of other registered Mytalk members or businesses in order of closest to furthest and filtered with parameters set in advance. What differentiates Mytalk is its ability to identify and communicate with nearby individuals based upon preset preferences. Members have the ability to limit access to buddies or friends and can regulate the level of identity they wish to reveal to another communicating member, be it general descriptions or more detailed profiles and pictures.<ref name="Homepage" group="" />
Upon launching Mytalk, the application will populate a list of pre-selected Mytalk member icons that have been identified as "positioned" closest to furthest. The list appears very much like a buddy list on Instant Messenger. By selecting and "opening" one of the member icons, the user will be able to see additional information on the member to the extent visibility access is granted (profile, pictures, video, etc.). The user can then reach out and communicate with the member (text or voice) if permitted by that member.<ref name="Homepage" group="" />
Other services are still being developed, such as a feature called "Superdeals." This would allow companies to send ads, discounts, and great deals to MyTalk users within a certain radius of their location. For example, if a car wash was having a slow day, the manager or an employee could send a notification to all MyTalk members withing 10 miles that car washes were half off for the next hour in an attempt to attract business.<ref name="Homepage" group="" /> MyTalk® has already begun working with businesses, such as Priceline.com, to incorporate hotel deals into this new feature.<ref name="Mobilebeat" group="" />
Supported Devices
The devices that currently have MyTalk applications are the iPhone, iTouch, iPad and Android on the ATT Network and iPad on the Verizon Network. MyTalk plans to release their platform on Blackberry and all Windows Mobile devices by the 3rd quarter of 2011.<ref name="Homepage" group="" />
