Social network poisoning

The term Social Network Poisoning refers the effect produced by the application of methods designed to make unreliable the knowledge related to a profile and releted to its relations. The application of large-scale attacks of this kind of methodic could cause the collapse of Social Networking platforms with sensible affect on its value for commercial purposes, with a considerable impact in terms of knowledge and correlation of data provided by users.
Introduction
Like the "route poisoning" (concept related the telecommunications networks), the "poisoning actions" are conducted with the objective to poison the contents of any social network usualy introducing artifacts profiles and creating relations between them and real profiles thus making the information unreliable. The result is the consequent failure of the "chain of trust", the fundamental on which all social networks are based, in order not to allow search engine specially developed to retrieve information of any kind relating to a particular profile.
Taxonomy
Starting from the assumption that within Internet and in particular within the social network is missing a safe and consistent management of digital identity, it is possible to introduce the main poisoning tools and methods currently feasible and hypothesize new ones in a future scenario:
Current tools and techniques
:* Identity Replacement, or the ability to impersonate another user for various purposes, from the intelligence to the social engineering.
:*Simulation of identity, creating a false profile, which does not correspond to any existing person, for malicious purposes or simply to remain anonymous.
:* profile fuzzing, the voluntary introduction of false elements and/or non-matching to your profile to deceive intelligence systems, preventing activities of OSINT, or to achieve other forms of personal gain.
:* Social graph fuzzing, intentional association to groups and people, who have nothing to do with a specific interests and relations, with the intention of introducing "noise" in their social graph.
Future tools and techniques:
: *The personal / social bots, creation of a considerable number of fake profiles (eg millions of fake profiles) managed by machines, capable of interacting with each other and with real users, thus changing the "sentiment "and" conversation "on a large scale as well as altering all the social graph, and to preclude meaningful correlations on the data.
: *Black curation, the use of real user accounts that have been compromised or of artifacts profiles used to discuss on subjects that you want to change the meaning, or to propose and create new discussions on specific topic, in analogy to the black SEO (Search engine optimization) is already in use on search engines.
