Martin Slidel

Martin Slidel (born 23 April 1970, Portsmouth He was a member of a performance/video group for Transmutations: International Festival of Live Art at the same venue, billed as "an innovative evening of dance, music and theatre...". His music has been described as "crav a kind of etherealness...". He trained as a music teacher at Oxford Brookes University under Dr Sarah Maidlow. In 2010, he participated in a gamelan improvisation for Oubliette (London).
He first exhibited as a student of Portsmouth School of Art with photographer Tom Schlieben at the Mountbatten Gallery (Portsmouth, 1990). His début exhibition of paintings and illustrations at Portsmouth Arts Centre (1991) was reviewed as "startling and enchanting...". Commissions include a mural for Plincke Landscape Ltd (Winchester, 1995) and a large-scale canvas for the National Training Centre of Network Rail Ltd (Coventry, 2005). He studied Art and Design in Education at the University of London under Dr Nicholas Addison.
Poems appeared in Interlude and the Interlude Poetry Anthology (both London, 2006). Copies of Interlude are held at London's Poetry Library. In 2008, he completed an art and poetry project with South London schoolchildren and co-taught poetry workshops with Yassin Edgeley at Brighton's Jubilee Library. A contribution to the London-based 20x20 magazine was reviewed by NewPages.com and Mslexia ("an enduring love story in verse...") and chosen for reading by actor Bisera Winters at The Harrison venue in London. His 2009 dissertation Coincident Artworlds of Preschool and Postmodern is held at the Institute of Education, University of London.
