Martin Cassidy

Martin Cassidy, real name Mark Cassidy (1966 - 8 January 2009), was an English stand-up comedian from Blackburn, Lancashire. Cassidy co-founded the "Lock 'n Load Comedy Club" in Blackburn, reached the final of the 2002 City Life Comedian Of The Year competition, and performed a sell-out show at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2008. Cassidy was found dead in January 2009.
Career
Cassidy first started training as an actor while at Cardiff University. In the late 1990s he began to perform comedy at open-mike nights and eventually became a full-time comedian, claiming that his influences included Tony Hancock and Les Dawson. In 2001, he founded the Lock 'n Load Comedy Club with another stand-up comedian, Ruth White. The following year, Cassidy reached the finals of the City Life Comedian of the Year competition.<ref name="Death"/><ref name="City Life"/> Cassidy also performed at the Edinburgh Fringe. At the 2008 festival his show "Second Saturday" was a sell-out, for which he was given a posthumous award.<ref name="Award"/>
