Sam Bowden (born 22 June 1993) is a young Australian comedian, specialising in performing stand-up. Early life/ personal life Bowden was born to parents Michelle and Julian Bowden in Southport on Australia's Gold Coast, and grew up in Brisbane. He attended primary school at Hilliard State School and currently attends Redeemer Lutheran College in Rochedale, and will graduate in 2010. Career At the age of 15, after much persuasion from friends and family, Bowden decided to attempt stand up comedy, in the national school comedy competition, Class Clowns, facilitated by the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. In his first attempt at the competition, Bowden progressed to the State Final, earning a special mention from the judges. The following year, in 2010, Bowden returned to Class Clowns, again progressing to the State Final, and this time placing as the runner up, with the possibility of progressing to the National Final through a wildcard entry. After international comedy guru Steve Roye viewed Bowden's 2010 Class Clowns performance, he wrote an article entitled 'Too Young For Stand-up Comedy? Meet Australian Comedian Sam Bowden'. Bowden has also expressed interest in participating in the Raw Comedy Award, as well as performing in the Brisbane stand up circuit. While at school, he performs in school events, showcasing his comedic and improvisational skills. One of these events was an inter-school Theatre Sports competition, run by the Brisbane 'Sit Down Comedy Club', in which his team won their opening round emphatically, before being narrowly defeated in the finals. Bowden's comedic influences are largely Australian comedians, such as Wil Anderson, Josh Thomas, and Adam Hills. His comedic style has also been compared to that of Ross Noble, due to his hilarious improvisation skills. Bowden hopes to establish himself as a genuine stand up comic over the next few years. He also is interested in other comedy projects. These include writing, producing and starring in films, podcasts and sketches as part of a comedy trio he started at school, named SIW, with two classmates Dominic Fay and Samuel Borgert.
