Laura Zeng (born October 1999) is a two-time USA rhythmic gymnastics national champion for level 5 and level 7. She is also a ballet dancer and has advanced to the final round for YAGP dance competition in 2010. Zeng started early training from age of four as a Chinese folk dancer. In 2006,at the age of seven, she began formal training in rhythmic gymnastics in a private club at Chicago suburb, North Shore Rhythmics (http://www.northshorerhythmics.com/Home.html ). She won the Level 4 (Child B) all-around in State Championship in the following year. In 2008 and 2009, Zeng was trained by coach Dennitza at Illinois Rhythmic Center(http://www.ilrhythmicgymnastics.com ) . She won the national all-around title for level 5 in 2008 and level 7 in 2009 (see USA Gymnastic Magazine http://www.usa-gymnastics.org/home/publications/usagymnastics/2009/4/38_results.pdf). She was also the Illinois and Regional 3 all-around champions in both 2008 and 2009. Zeng is currently training rhythmic gymnastics at Rhythmix (http://www.rhythmixinc.com/news_and_events.asp) at Buffalo Grove, Illinois. Zeng started ballet training at Russian Classical Ballet by Ms. Zoya at Deerfield, Illinois. In 2008, she briefly trained at Dance Center North studio and Jenny's Dance at Libertyville, Illinois. Since 2009, Zeng has been training at Faubourg School of Ballet at Hanover Park, Illinois. In 2010, she participated Joffrey Ballet Academy summer intensive as a scholarship student. Her classical solo pieces of Esmalda and Kitri won her top 12 in pre-competitive category in YAGP semi-finals, largest ballet student competition in the world. She was invited to the final round in NYC. Her contemporary piece Libertango also won the top 12 in the semi-finals in Chicago. Zeng is also a straight-A student so far. She is a member of Libertyville district gifted and talented program for fourth grade in 2010.
