Laura Peter is a lawyer and Republican Nominee for California's . Personal life Peter was born in Los Angeles, although her family traces its ancestry in San Francisco back to the 1870s. She returned to San Francisco in 1997. She graduated from Cornell University and majored in Industrial Engineering. She also received a Master's Degree in Public Policy Studies from the University of Chicago, a Juris Doctor from Santa Clara Law School, and an LLM from King's College, University of London in International Business Law. She lives in the North Beach neighborhood in San Francisco. Professional career A Partner at The General Counsel, Peter is a lawyer with a background on international patents and intellectual property. Her landmark case was with Immersion Corporation (as General Counsel) where she spearheaded a lawsuit against Sony Corporation alleging copyright infringement. She helped secure an $82.5 million dollar judgment against the technology giant. Peter is a cofounder of the Women's Intellectual Property Law Association. 13th Assembly District Candidacy Peter soundly defeated her primary opposition in the 13th District June 2010 Primary Election. She faces Assemblyman Tom Ammiano in the November 2010 General Election. The San Francisco Chronicle briefly mentioned Laura Peter in an article on August 23 examining San Francisco Republican candidates, and she wrote a Letter to the Editor on August 4.
