Tomica Wright

Tomica Wright (born Tomica Woods) is the owner and CEO of Ruthless Records and the widow of deceased rapper Eazy-E.
Early life
Woods was born in Los Angeles, California in 1969. She went to high school in the San Fernando Valley, then attended Santa Monica College and West Los Angeles Community College. She procured a position as a secretary to Tabu Records founder Clarence Avant. In 1993, Woods moved to Motown Records with Avant who accepted a position as chairman at Motown Records.
Relationship with Wright
Woods met Eric Wright, a rap music artist known as Eazy-E and founder of Ruthless Records in 1991. They spent four years in a relationship. Already the mother of one child, she and he had two more children with Wright, a son named Dominick and a daughter named Daijah. The two were married twelve days before Wright died from AIDS-related pneumonia and inherited Ruthless Records from Wright which was estimated to be worth $15 million at the time of Eric Wright's death in 1995 from her husband.
Inheritance of Ruthless Records
Woods' inheritance of Ruthless Records proved to be a baptism-by-fire. She was largely unknown entity in the music industry and faced the challenge of keeping the label on top, staving off lawsuits from others who wanted a piece of the company, and convincing artists and industry executives that she possessed the necessary business acumen to oversee the successful label but within two years of assuming control of the company, she restructured the label, sought a better distribution deal, expanded the label's artist roster, and introduced new talent that would broaden the type of music the label embraced.
Woods learned much about the music industry from Avant but also credits Wright for allowing her to learn the intricacies of operating an innovative corporation. While Avant represented corporate savvy, Wright represented street smarts and the art of the gamble—as he achieved his early multi-platinum sales with virtually no radio or video exposure whatsoever.
Accomplishments at Ruthless Records
With the exception of the Cleveland-based Bone Thugs 'n' Harmony, the label didn't have a gold or platinum record between 1993 and early 1998, and the gangsta rap genre that defined its success was waning in popularity. Woods built a staff of about 20 employees and when she felt she had finally solidified the label's foundation in the post-Wright era, she began to aggressively seek out new talent. She signed comedian/actor Chris Tucker, Big Chan, N.X., Big Rocc, and soul trio Blulight. Woods-Wright also released a 10th anniversary Ruthless commemorative compilation record in 1998, titled Decade of Game, which featured two unreleased Eazy-E tracks, and singles by N.W.A., Above the Law, D.O.C., Michel'le, and JJ Fad. Woods also negotiated a distribution deal with Epic/Sony in 1997, which gave the label more corporate leverage.
Working as film producer
With the success of Notorious, New Line Cinema representatives announced to Entertainment Weekly's "Hollywood Insider Blog" that N.W.A.'s story is in development to become a theatrical release in 2012. According to IMDB, the script was researched and written by filmmaker S. Leigh Savidge and radio veteran Alan Wenkus who worked closely with Woods, who is also producing the film with Ice Cube, and Dr. Dre. A director has not been chosen yet; however, the producers are reportedly seeking a helmer on par with 8 Mile director Curtis Hanson. The cast has yet to be disclosed. MC Ren and DJ Yella have not yet commented on whether or not they will be involved in the production.
