Arriving at the UAE in 1985, Kamel Abu Saqer worked for Lutfi & Co. as an advocate & legal consultant. In 1987, he became a specialist in banking and insurance claims but continued to handle many civil commercial cases for his overseas and local clients.
After seven years in public practice, Kamel Abu Saqer served for fifteen years as the legal counsel for the Salem Al Moosa Group - one of the largest family based commercial groups in the UAE. Aside from being a member of several professional legal bodies, he earned an MBA from the University of Hull in the United Kingdom.
He has been actively involved in various cases including insurance and commercial cases before civil and sharia courts, different committees and arbitration tribunals.
In his last role as the Al Moosa Group legal counsel, he assumed responsibility for all legal matters, cases, contracts and advice with regards to the group’s strategies in various fields of operations. These included contracting, manufacturing, general trading, marketing and advertising, transport and plant hire, media and communication, publications and real estate.
He conducted much legal research and many studies. Some of this research has appeared in different publications including the Al Khaleej and Al Bayan Newspapers, Gulf Today, Khaleej Times, Emirates Today, BBC Worldwide and Gulf Wide. Some of this research had a direct effect on decision makers within government agencies and led them to regulate on some topics with new laws and rules. His work covers a broad spectrum of studies, research and articles in English and Arabic magazines. He is also a much sought after speaker at specialized seminars and is a popular guest on regional television. His Arabic publications include “Globalization Models - Islamic Vision, Part I” and “Globalization Methods & Systems Part II - New Islamic Vision” (2000, Al Hilal Publishing House, Lebanon). His English publications include “Bridging the Gulf” (2000, Al Sanawber Printing Press), an essential read for anyone who wants to do business in the Arabian Gulf region, and “Internet and E-Commerce” (2002, Dar Al Hakma).
Background
