Diana Shaw is a Democratic candidate currently running in the 2010 California State Assembly election in the 38th District. She was a founding member of the Democratic Alliance for Action, Santa Clarita's largest and most influential democratic club. In addition to her involvement in local Santa Clarita politics, Diana is a practicing lawyer and a small business owner. Background Diana was born in Detroit, Michigan, but has been a California resident since 1961. She attended Susan Miller Dorsey High School in Los Angeles, California. In 1968, she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Television and Film Production from the University of California, Los Angeles. After spending a couple years working as a social worker for the Los Angeles Department of Social Services, Diana received her J.D. from Loyola Law School in 1981, and became a Member of the California Bar the following year. Professional and Political Career Upon becoming a Member of the California Board, Diana began working with the Screen Actor's Guild Counsel and later with the Writer's Guild Counsel until 1990. Since then, she has been practicing law, specializing in studio distribution and above the line talent. Her production clients include ITC Entertainment, PolyGram Television, and Universal Studios. In 2008, Diana became a small business owner, opening up a photography company, Shawhouse Photography. For the last twenty years, Diana has played an active role in Santa Clarita politics. Besides helping to organize local political efforts on behalf of the presidential campaigns of John Kerry in 2004 and Barack Obama in 2008, she continues to work for the Democratic Alliance for Action (an organization that began out of her own living room in 1994). This group has played a pivotal role in California Assembly District 38 politics, increasing registered area Democrats by over 5,000.
