Jamia-Tur-Rasheed () is an Islamic institution situated in Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan. Introduction Jamia-Tur-Rasheed is a distinct institution of religious studies providing a comprehensive system of imparting religious studies. Jamia is a great addition in the leading educational and religious institutions of the country. Within a short span of time, Jamia has joined the rank of huge seminaries of the country. Along with the imparting of theological subjects, Jamia encourages a practical demonstration of “Islah” (Rectification) and instruction, training and civility, religious values and ethics. All educational subjects incorporated in religious seminaries form part of the Jamia. Some of the Educational, Reformative and administrative features of Jamia are unique. Educational courses Educational courses in Jamia fall into two categories: • Long Courses • Short Courses Long Courses These persist throughout the educational year (lasting from the Islamic month of Shawwal till Rajab) and include the following: 1. Nazra-wa-Hifzay Quran Majeed: - There are eight groups of Nazra and Hifzay Quran (Reading from text and memorization of the Quran) which run under the supervision of ten teachers. One teacher has 25 to 30 students in his group. Almost 250 students are enrolled in memorization of the Holy Book. 2. Dars-e-Nizami Dars-e-Nizami is the basis of the syllabus of almost all religious seminaries of Indo-Pakistan. This system provides for the same basic books of knowledge and skills which were part of the old Dars-e-Nizami. Circumstances and temporal challenges, however, necessitate improvement and amendments. Almost 60 books of this syllabus of Dars-e-Nizami including Sarf, Nahw, Meaning, Rhetoric, Literature, Logic, Philosophy, Jurisprudence, Principles of Jurisprudence, Interpretation, Hadith and Principles of Hadith are part of the instruction in most of the religious seminaries. Jamia has introduced some useful and modern changes in the syllabus, incorporating some other skills which were earlier not part of the syllabus. Dars-e-Nizami has 6 stages (Mutawasta, Ama, Khasa, Aliya, Aalmiya, Thakhasus) spanning over a period of 15 years. Mutawasta Stage: - This stage is spread over 5 years and admissions are given to primary passes students. This stage contains Islamiats, Persian, Seerat (Biography of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), Islamic history and education up to class 10th. Last two years (9th & 10th) exams are conducted through Secondary Board Karachi and for these arrangements are made by Jamia’s Alberuni Model secondary school. Apart from this stage, all other stages consist of 2 years. Dars-e-Nizami with some amendments is taught in all these stages. 3. Mahadul Lughatul Arabia Usually students of Dars-e-Nizami are not au fait with spoken and written Arabic. To awaken an urge in students for spoken and written Arabic, Mahadul Lughatul Arabia has been mapped out wherein all lessons are imparted in Arabic. Students of Mahad interact in Arabic with other students and teachers. Although Mahad, on the whole, falls under the general Education system, yet Mahad has a system of its own in students’ education and examination. Announcements, Rules & Regulation, examination result and students’ forms are all written in Arabic. Mahad’s syllabus, apart from the registered syllabus of Wafaq, consists of History, Geography, Situation of present Muslim world, Alghaz wal Fikri and one hour English. 4. Kulya-tul-Takhasus Jamia-Tur-Rasheed has launched five divergent 1 year specialization programmes to enable the graduates of religious seminaries to better serve the cause of Islam. The primary objective of these specialization programes is to coach these graduates in the context of present challenges, in Fatwa, expression, composition and Da’wa. These specialization programmers, spanning over a period of 11 months (20th Shawal to 20th Ramazan), are only designed for Madrasah graduates. Different 1 year specialization programs for Madrasah graduates i. Specialization in Fatwa ii. Specialization in teaching iii. Arabic Language Course iv. English Language Course v. Urdu Journalism Course Detailed Description of the above courses i. Specialization in Fatwa Admissions are given to students who are well grounded in religious studies. This course comprises three parts. a. Teaching: principles of Imla-wa-tarqeem (Dictation and writing), Inheritance, principles of research, ethics of fatwa, Kitab-ul-bayoh of Indad-ul-Fatawah, complete course of Islamic Banking, Geography, Astronomy, and Principles of Qaza-wa-Tahkeem are taught in this section. b. Academic Work: The following books are studied: Dur-ul-mukhtar ba Aanat-e-Radul Mukhtar, Alashba wal-Nazair (Alfun-ul-Awal, shara-ul-Mujalh Vol.1), Indad-ul-Fatawah. c. Exercises in Fatwa: In this segment the participants are drilled to practically solve Fatwa exercises comprising miscellaneous topics (12.5) both ancient and modern. Aside from this, diverse research works are carried out. ii. Specialization in Da’wah and teaching: This Course has been designed for fresh graduates to coach them in Da’wah and teaching and speech and writing. iii. Arabic Language Course: Arabic is our religious and spiritual language. It is the third most widely spoken language of the world. It is also the best medium of expression for Islamic culture and civilization, Ethics and traditions. Arabic not only Contains wonderful and timeless standard religious literature, but also provides modern knowledge, our graduates can keep themselves abreast with the flattest research and new advances in various brunch es of learning. This course provides for the teaching of ancient and modern Arabic Literature, Arabic writing, reading and speaking, Arabic Journalism and exercises for translations from Arabic into Urdu and vice Versa. iv. English Language Course: In Current sceneries English has become our urgent need in the guise of English our religion has been religion has been severely targeted and its image badly tarnished. Snatching the foes weapons and targeting them with the same has been the characteristic of our fore fathers. At tips critical juncture, taking stock of this need is crucial. Moreover, International Da’wah and preaching and the defiance of Islam today is contingent upon English taking into account this need, this course was initiated. Matriculate ulemas are enrolled in this course. Jamia has employed four proficient teachers. These experts teach Grammar, Conversations, translation and text very ably enabling the participants to master English Language skills. In addition, two hours have been specified for various computers courses. The course has been so prepared that apart from English, participants get trained in English Journalism. This has doubled its use fullness. v. Journalism Course: In this age of media, the importance of Islamic Journalism can’t be exaggerated. The criteria for the selection of the participants in this course are: General Knowledge, Intellectual Inclination and Urdu Language Skills Including Essay. The Successful candidates are taught the basic rules of Urdu dictation and writing along with English Language and computers, which are essential parts of today’s Journalism. Furthermore, well-known journalists of the country shed lights on the diverse types of Journalism of the country, practical exercises are fully practiced. 5. Kulya-tush-Shariah 6. Kulya-tu-Idarah Short Courses These courses are taught at appropriate times for a certain period during the educational year or during vacations. These courses vary in duration, including mostly non-curricular activities. (i). Qaza (Fatwa) Course (ii). Islamic Banking Course. (iii). Summer Camp.
