Mustard Film Company was founded in 1999 in London’s commercial production industry. In collaboration with US based digital and interactive production company, Mustard Digital has recently been launched.
Directors
Dom Bridges
Dom started directing commercials whilst also developing and directing a number of award winning short films. His recent commercial clients include O2 UK, , BBC Radio 6, , Tesco and Pot Noodle. He has recently worked with Fallon Worldwide, Denstu, VCCP, Red Brick Road and Publicis. His most recent spot completed the Lucozade trilogy for Grey London in which a band plays a song whilst skateboarding down a hill. He continues to write and direct his own short films, recently including ‘Bitch’ ‘The Magic of Neil Diamond’ and ‘Sunday’, all written, directed, filmed and edited by Dom himself. In 2010 Dom made his UK TV directing debut with new sitcom ‘Shelfstackers’ for BBC Two
Jonny Campbell
Jonny Campbell started his career as a researcher on Granada Television’s magazine show ‘This Morning’ before going on to direct documentaries and then drama. His early directing credits include the complete first series of Peter Kay’s comedy Phoenix Nights. Jonny is perhaps best known for directing the ground-breaking Channel 4 comedy series as the series won him several awards. He went on to direct the ‘Shameless Christmas Special’, the spy drama Spooks and for BBC One. Last year Jonny directed two episodes of Doctor Who including the episode penned by Richard Curtis and the critically acclaimed Eric and Ernie which aired on BBC Two on New Years Day 2011 and won a BAFTA earlier this year.
Jonny’s feature film debut starring Ant & Dec, Bill Pullman and Harry Dean Stanton was released by Warner Bros. in 2006 and selected to screen at the American Film Institute Film Festival in Hollywood. It was one of the top 10 British films at the UK box office in 2006.
Jonny has directed many commercials through Mustard for brands such as Sainsbury’s, , National Lottery; Tennents’ and Irn Bru to name but a few and is highly regarded in the performance, comedy and food genres. He has just finished a brand campaign for Morrisons featuring Freddie Flintoff.
Sam Miller
Directed Emmy-nominated, hard-hitting cop series 'Luther' starring Idris Elba for the BBC (2011) Sam Miller is a director predominantly noted for his drama work for TV, feature films and commercials. The original director on the cult TV series ‘This Life’, Sam has directed many successful TV dramas including ’, Spooks, Tripping Over and the highly regarded one off drama ‘Krakatoa’ for the BBC. His feature film directing credits include ‘Among Giants’, ‘King Leek’ and ‘Quite Ugly one Morning’ starring James Nesbitt.
Sam was the originating director on Series 1 and sole director on Series 2 of the critically acclaimed UK crime drama for BBC1, starring Idris Elba. He also recently directed , featuring David Tennant.
Sam has been directing commercials for the past 10 years, and has an extensive body of work for clients such as Bulmers, British Gas, Honda, Playstation 2, Specsavers, Direct Line, COI Anti Smoking, Compare the Market and Domestic Abuse for the Scottish Executive, for which he has earned inclusion in the APA 50.
Cris Mudge
Cris has a varied body of work, based around strong performance and casting. He has directed commercials for VCCP, DDB, Ogilvy & Mather, AMV, TBWA, COI, Mother, CHI and Saatchi & Saatchi on various brands such as ING, VW, Nike, Inc. AA, Grolsch, Specsavers, , Carphone Warehouse and Camelot.
James Pilkington
became interested in film-making after watching a particularly thrilling episode of Home and Away one afternoon. His first effort, a short film entitled "Pocket", ended up winning the Best British Short Film award, awarded by the BBC. James branched out into commercials soon after and was snapped up by a production company in New Zealand. He enjoyed prolific success there and became one of the top commercial directors on the block. Recent commercial clients include , Aero, Trumpet and . James' sense of laddy humour juxtaposed with a stylised visual approach give his work an unforgettable edge - recent short films "" (featuring Julian Barratt & Noel Fielding from The Mighty Boosh) and "Reg" are testament to this.
Simon Levene
Simon got his directing career off to a flying start when in his first year he was selected as one of the ten new hottest directors in the world and premiered in the Cannes/Saatchis new directors showcase of 1998. He is renowned for his directorial style, which combines legendary casting and performances with a strong visual aesthetic.
Alongside his commercial work, Simon enjoys writing and directing short films. His first "Tube Poker" was in competition for the Golden Lion at the 2006 Venice Film Festival and won many international awards. Simon's most recent short "Shoreditch Slayer" was a finalist at the 2011 Rushes Soho Shorts Film Festival, Underwire Festival, London International Short Film Festival, International Horror and Sci-Fi Film Festival and New Media Festival LA.
Simon has most recently collaborated with JWT London in creating a new brand campaign for First Direct. He lives in London with his most cherished possession, a signed photo of him and Woody Allen.
Double Act
Alastair Cook and Rob Davis have been making high-profile documentaries together for the past ten years. During this time they have produced some of the most talked-about documentaries on British television.
They shot their first commercial for Bulmers, winning the job from some highly experienced directors with their fantastic treatment. Since then they have flourished and worked with some prolific clients including Nokia, Mastercard, Littlewoods and B&Q through agencies , McCann Erickson, Leo Burnett and Rapier.
John Immesoete
John Immesoete began his career in advertising as a creative at DDB Chicago. He worked his way up to become Creative Director of the brand and created some of their most notorious advertising campaigns, including the hilarious and hugely successful "Real Men of Genius". John began his directing career in 2002 when his cinematic vision led Anheuser-Busch in its first foray into movies and he became Budweiser’s first original filmmaker. John conceived, wrote and co-directed Budweiser’s first short films entitled, “The Best Man,” and “Gas, Food, Beer” which aired on Kevin Spacey's Trigger Street Productions’ and Budweiser’s websites, VH1, The Comedy Channel and USA Network.
John’s is able to bring his inimitable comedy touch to any script and he has worked with a diverse range of brands. Recent clients include Coca-Cola, Chrysler, IFC, Camelot, Maltesers, Kit Kat (Campaign's "Pick of the Week"), J20 and VW commissioned through various London agencies including JWT, BBH and AMV.
Summer Agnew
Summer grew up on a commune in Auckland’s Waitakere ranges where he listened to unique people telling unique tales. Following his graduation from the Elam School of Fine Arts he was awarded funding from the NZ Screen Innovation Production Fund to make the acclaimed documentary Minginui.
After a highly awarded stint directing television programmes, Summer moved into the world of commercials where he has directed spots for Auckland Tourism, Milkybar, Smarties, State Insurance, a charity spot for Canteen, ICA and Sovereign.
Greg Gray
After starting out in the industry as an Assistant Director, Greg moved into directing in the late 1990s. Based in South Africa, he has made a name for himself due to the prolific nature of his work. He first came to the world’s attention with a campaign for BMW which was both thrilling and dynamic, and he received special attention for his lighting, art direction, unusual camera moves and editing. More recently he has worked with notable clients including Guinness, Ford, Nike, Inc., Cadbury, Virgin Group and .
David Eustace
David Eustace has been a successful stills photographer for over 10 years. During his career he has worked extensively in the world of art, music and cinema, photographing people such as Sir Paul McCartney, Sir John Mills, Sophia Loren, John Hurt, Ewan McGregor and Guy Ritchie. Eve Arnold once stated that she had only ever been photographed twice in her life, where the portrait had any substance; once by Cartier-Bresson, and the other time a portrait for by David Eustace. His move into directing seemed a natural progression and he has directed several successful campaigns for advertising agencies globally. At present he successfully combines his stills career with commercials directing. Stills clients include: Paramount Pictures, The New Yorker, , The Sunday Times, Miramax, NBC, InStyle, , , The Telegraph and Conde Nast Traveller and many more. Commercials work includes Visit Scotland, Halls, James Villas and One North East amongst others.
Alex Telfer
Alex Telfer is an Advertising and Editorial photographer born and raised in the North of England, where he currently resides. He carries out commissions for a broad roster of advertising agencies across the UK, Europe and USA. Recent projects include campaigns for Guinness, Nikon, Ernst and Young, Wella, Sport England and the BBC.
Alex has run his own advertising photography business since 1992 and during the past 3 years has successfully developed his directing showreel with commercials for some great brands including Guinness, One North East, the Scottish Government and Scotrail.
Johnny Maginn
Johnny began his career in advertising in the early 90s. His first job was working for Leo Burnett Worldwide as an art director, where he worked on various accounts including McDonald's, Typhoo and Brains Faggots. After stints at both Ogilvy & Mather and TBWA working on several other accounts, Johnny realised his heart lay elsewhere and decided to try his hand at directing. He immersed himself in a film course at London College of Printing for three years, from which he graduated with a degree and a short film entitled “Livertonian”, about the trauma suffered by a baby boy forced to make a decision between Everton and Liverpool football clubs. He rapidly established himself in the industry by winning a Bronze Lion and runner-up in the Best Young Director at Cannes, both in his first year.
Johnny signed to Mustard in 2008. His work includes commercials for Sony Playstation, Vodafone, Muller, BP, Kellogg's, Philips, Persil and Nike, Inc.. He has just finished a Nokia commercial through London; a Mars commercial for AMV; and football respect campaign for BETC.
Stuart Elliott
Stuart was born in Bellshill, Lanarkshire. A location most noted for being the hometown of the songstress Sheena Easton.
After a disastrous couple of years in his mid-teens with an all-male dance troupe called “The Beef” Stuart eventually settled down and enrolled at a local college. It was there that he first discovered his love of directing.
Stuart’s flair for black comedy gives his work a brilliantly dark edge, which most recently he has applied to spots for Irn-Bru, X-Box, Perry's Ford Dealership and 32Red to name a few.
Al Berlin
After a foundation in graphic design and a degree in music Al decided to delve into the world of directing. Inspired by the A-Team he retired to his garage equipped with nothing but Pritt Stick, masking tape and some paperclips and emerged with a homemade show reel.
One of the finished pieces was shortlisted for the European Young Director’s award at Cannes and another was selected for the Shots New Young Director’s Showcase. He has gone on to direct a range of promos, idents and commercials. Al joined Mustard in 2011.
Luc Schurgers
Determined to be a ‘70’s kid, Luc was born in 1979, in Berg. He spent his early childhood in the countryside before moving to the big smoke when he was 18 where he discovered a whole new world of technology and media. He studied at Amsterdam’s Fashion Institute, completing a BA in Visual Marketing and then on to National Centre for Computer Animation in Bournemouth where he did an MA in Animation and VFX.
In 2005 Luc set up the award winning animation studio in Amsterdam; Minivegas. Their award haul includes gold, silver and bronze Lions at Cannes including one gold, one silver and two bronze in 2012, and many high profile directing awards. Clients include GQ, Adidas, Ray Ban, Levi's, , Dior, Vogue and Intel Curiosity. He also runs The Vegas Gallery in Bethnal Green with his sister.
Adam Cameron
Adam was born in London, United Kingdom where his love for directing first began. His work comes with great recognition at Cannes, BTAA, Addys, One Show, D&AD, Kinsale Sharks, Museum of Modern Art and two DGA nominations for best director in the US amongst others.
His most recent project is the latest installment for Mobil 1 with Lewis Hamilton.

John Doris
A career advertising man, John started in the mail room at Collett, Dickenson & Pearce Advertising(CDP), working his way up to become Head of TV. During his fifteen years at CDP received many awards for brands such as Hamlet, Honda, BNFL and Radio Rentals.
In October 2000, John joined Mustard as a Senior Producer. In February 2004 he became a Managing Director and Partner. John has sat on the Advertising Producers Association (APA) Policy group for the last 7 seven years and regularly tutors both APA and IPA young producer courses in London.
Matt Hichens
Matt, born in Bangor, a coastal town in Northern Ireland, arrived in London via Bristol where he started in the advertising game at CDP as New Business Manager helping the agency win many new business accounts such as Honda, Canon, MGM. Matt appropriately signed with Mustard in the spring of 2001 where he spearheaded New Business where he made an immediate impact and soon moved onto producing commercials as well. Matt worked developing many of Mustard's directors as they grew and became firm favourites with London agencies working on many award winning campaigns. Matt was made a partner at Mustard later on.
Tool of North America
Tool and Mustard teamed up to help bring American talent to the UK and vice versa, being able to benefit from having a wider range of directors both sides of the Atlantic. Tool's directors come in to

Evan Silver
Evan Silver launched his career as a creative and worked at some of New York’s top creative shops - Kirshenbaum & Bond, , and Cliff Freeman & Partners—experimenting in all forms of filmmaking and media.
Prior to joining Mustard in 2011, Evan Silver spent several years at the fast-paced on-air promo departments of The Sundance Channel and MTV, refining his directing skills for comedy and performance, working with musicians, actors and comedians such as Jack Black, Aziz Ansari, Mariah Carey, Snoop Dogg and Justin Bieber. Evan is known for his cinematic storytelling mixed with a “youthful, comedic edge.” He is the talent behind some of MTV’s most talked-about campaigns and promos, including writing and directing the controversial three-minute launch video for the USA version of Skins.
Erich Joiner
Erich Joiner works in Manhattan Beach, California. He began his career in advertising as a creative at Goodby, Silverstein & Partners in San Francisco. Erich rose to the ranks of creative director before making the leap into directing by co-founding renowned LA-based production company Tool of North America.
Combining memorable performances from a wide range of actors with high visual impact, Erich has earned considerable attention and accolades for his work on Bud Light, MTV, DHL, Honda, Yahoo, Fox Sports, Lexus and Miller Lite, to name but a few.
Geordie Stephens
Geordie Stephens began his career in advertising by working up through the ranks of graphic designer, art director and creative director at Crispin Porter & Bogusky, following a degree and MFA in sculpture, installation art and graphic design.
His fresh and often unorthodox work has been frequently praised by both the press and a variety of international award shows. His approach on Maxim’s Endangered Man was hailed as one of 2005’s most unique campaigns and his interactive work on VW was awarded the Interactive Grand Clio in 2006. He has recently worked with some prolific clients including Burger King, Virgin Atlantic, Mini, Ikea, Budweiser and VW.
James Brown
Brown’s film work includes Lexus’ interactive short Dark Ride with Norman Reedus (Boondock Saints); a half hour comedy, One Wedding and a Funeral; and two LA International Short Film Fest-featured shorts, Stuck in Traffic and An African Dream. Brown’s resume in the music video world includes videos for Faithless, Tori Amos, The Spice Girls, Finley Quaye and Apollo 440, among others. As a commercials director, Brown has created standout work for PlayStation, Nike, Inc., Adidas, Eurostar and Microsoft, as well as a Vodafone spot with Eva Mendes, a Guinness spot with Michael Fassbender, and a FIFA spot with Ronaldinho and Wayne Rooney. Brown has also directed spots for Rolling Rock, Coca-Cola, and MasterCard.
Tim Routson
As a creative and in-house director at Goodby, Silverstein & Partners, Routson discovered at an early age that there’s no better drug than laughter.
Routson's ability to combine modern film sensibilities with laugh-out-loud comedy, as evidenced for Budweiser and Got Milk?, have garnered hardware at the Clios, Cannes Lions, and AICP, among others. His spot work is also included in the permanent collection of New York’s Museum of Modern Art.
Routson's apposite humor is best showcased in campaign spots for DHL, Bud Light, Pennzoil and Allstate.
Jason Zada
Jason Zada founded the digitally-focused creative advertising agency EVB in 2000 which, over the years became world-renowned for creating innovative work in both the traditional and digital mediums.
Whilst a creative, Jason wrote award-winning campaigns for clients such as Adidas, Wrigley Company, Old Spice, 2K Sports, Burger King, MTV, Levi’s and Office Max (“Elf Yourself” - the most successful viral website of all time).
Jason has been directing since 2009. His first year won him the chance to direct campaigns for Nike, Inc., Sears, Ray-Ban, FDL and FITC.
Matt Ogens
Filmmaker Matt Ogens began his directorial career unexpectedly after being held up at gunpoint in New Orleans. This event inspired Matt to direct and produce “Ray of Hope”, a documentary about violent crime shot inside Louisiana State Penitentiary.
Since the debut of his first documentary, Matt has gone on to direct a wide range of spots and documentary pieces. In the world of advertising, he has helmed major commercial campaigns for national brands like VH1, MTV, ESPN and Toyota.
J.J. Adler
The work of award-winning filmmaker/storyteller J.J.Adler has been noted for its sense of humour and odd, awkward moments of humanity. She received an A&E IndieFilms Talent Development Grant in 2006, and has cultivated a unique comedic voice and distinguished body of work.
While studying at Columbia, Adler’s short documentary “Unattached”, which explores the contemporary world of Orthodox New York Jews in the midst of a relationship “crisis”, won a Student Academy Award for Best Documentary. Her M.F.A thesis, “New Media”, a darkly comedic short about a desperate dentist/inventor who takes a very amateurish stab at creating a “viral video” for his new product “Snore No More”, was selected to premiere at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival.
Since graduating, Adler has been Director for the Onion News Network, airing on IFC. Adler, able and eager to find the humour in anything and everything, including herself, helped shape the network’s insightful, topical and often very politically incorrect humour. Her work with the Onion News Network was recognized with a 2008 Peabody Award, and her segment “Soccer Comes Out of the Closet” received a 2011 Webby People’s Voice Award.
Sean Ehringer
Sean Ehringer studied psychology at University of California, Berkeley before attending the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. His combined studies developed his appreciation not only for aesthetics but for offbeat moments that reveal human nature.
Sean began his career as a creative Art Director in New York, from which he quickly climbed the ladder to become Assistant Creative Director for Goodby, Silverstein & Partners followed by Creative Director at Leagas Delaney. He made the leap to directing soon after.
Recent clients include Sprint, Staples Inc., ESPN and AT&T.
Robert Richardson
Robert Richardson is one of the most highly regarded American cinematographers working today. His collaborations with ground-breaking directors Martin Scorsese, Oliver Stone and Quentin Tarantino have garnered a record seven Oscar nominations and three wins, including an Oscar for Best Cinematography for Hugo, The Aviator
Richardson brought his talents to commercial directing in 2002 and has helmed spots of staggering beauty for American Express (feat. Robert DeNiro), Kodak and SBC amongst others.
